I sincerely hope that SF do well today Mary Lou McDonald - Sinn Féin
I have seen Mary Lou from afar over decades, at many events, and her party have actively engaged in high level diplomacy, over decades, to bring lasting peace to this Island.
It can be said the party has 'skeletons in its closet.'
However, what version of history have you been exposed to school?
And in the esteemed universities?
Covering the Age of Enlightenment from the great bicentennial celebrations out of Clongowes Wood College S.J. (1814-2014)?
When Micheál Martin and Simon Harris TD ask where has Mary Lou McDonald - Sinn Féin been for 100 years, their conjoined statuses are aiming to create a homogenised innocence; their 'broad bandwidth' as objectively prosocial, a rose in the cross of the present and all reconnaissance moves of beatified neutrality in the lie of the land under FF/FG et al and PDs.
Having listened attentively to the soothsayings, going back to Castleknock educated Paddy Cooney in Longford Westmeath, over 50 years now, I do feel old, before my time.
Simon Harris TD has manifested some interest in this history as our our/my history, showing up for famine commemorations, earlier this year in Maria Edgeworth Centre right near the heartland of Oliver Goldsmith - born in Ballymahon, we think, a great heartland of FG.
Longford Westmeath, Offaly etc, one should examine the CSO data from Cottage to Creche since at least the 1950s into the now. It is not rocket science, the trend lines of polarisation are plain to see in 'vectors of inequity, shapeshifting through time and space.
The area has had its fair share of tycoon innovation, but also its share of enervation, and, much of the popular analyses on the former is just lazy and even dogmatic.
This election has clearly manifested the linguistic capacity of more than just the usual fire branding of others. I particularly remember the Cosgrave era of downcast eyes; cool pose of detachment as opposed to the jovial Albert keeper of the third secret of Fatima. All very romantic
"Clubs function by carving society into niches, to create a sense of belonging to something larger. Like the old guilds, many centre on professions"
One side would talk the talk against the economists and sometimes living way beyond our means as FG payed homage to fiscal judicious prudence.
1960s/70s/80s/90s and here we are in 2024.
James Bond: Well, it's all a matter of perspective.
