𝗛𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗲𝗱! How to design products users are stuck on! I have friends who are into match predictions. Every time they come home, they're either frustrated about their team's performance or throwing insults at their clubs for not winning or losing. In their words: Just this one game! 🤌🏻 (Man U, you do this one) They will even go on and try to explain to me how they were this close to hitting jackpot. (I'm like why you telling me?)🤷♂️ But give them couple of minutes, they're back at it again. I used to wonder why they kept at it regardless of how much they're winning or losing. Well, now I know. The system is designed to give players a reward often enough to keep them interested, but variable enough to hook them. The apps on our phones works the same way. When we go on tiktok, how many interesting videos will you find? It's like the next interesting video is always 2 to 3 videos away. So that hunt to find videos worth liking or sharing is addictive and it makes users stay on it long and keep coming back. This is power of variable reward. This is one among the four-step model talked about in this book by Nir Iyal called Hooked. Check it out! #uxpsychology #ux #ui #hooked #userexperience
Reward is an interesting way to get users hooked and a feeling that they'll lose something. I think this is where I find Duolingo interesting. The Reward is interesting and once you lose your streak, you are back to square one. Well said boss
Great read 👍
