As a military veteran turned entrepreneur, I've realized something important: the leadership style we learned in the military is different from what most people tell you to do in the business world. In the military, you stay connected with your team and make sure you understand every part of the mission. You don’t just hand off responsibility and walk away. When I joined Lobby4, I was told that as it grows, I should start "stepping back" and let others handle things. But that just didn’t feel right to me. It’s like being a commander and suddenly deciding not to stay involved when things are getting tough—that wouldn’t fly in the military. So, I’ve stuck with what I know works: staying involved, staying connected, and making sure the vision stays strong. This "founder mode" isn’t about micromanaging; it’s about showing up for your people, knowing what’s going on, and making sure things stay on track. That’s how it works, and it’s been the right move. For me, leadership means being in the trenches with your team, not watching from the sidelines.
