I’m just going to say this part out loud … There are way too many grant and funding programs that are centered around “teaching” Black and brown Founders about traditional and basic models of entrepreneurship and business. What we need is the access and funding needed to execute our ideas and solutions - to re-envision and shape entrepreneurship and business centered in community and collective liberation. 🚫Not forced mentorship 🚫Not a multi-month cohort program 🚫Not a biz 101 course
Just give us the money 🤷🏾♀️
I'll add a bit more out loud - those "traditional" models of business are colonial-based in mindset and structure. The re-envisioning around "collective liberation" is the way forward rather than pushing oppressive lessons to the folks who have been on the receiving end of that inequity.
Couldn’t have said it better.

6moThank you for starting this conversation Angela R. Howard! In my experience most investors have a support/training component for founders whom they are investing in. Are you finding that for black and brown founders it’s more of a prerequisite than an additional support mechanism to help ensure the prosperity of their investment?
