EREV has an electric motor with a large battery pack and an onboard gas-powered generator that provides electricity to ‘extend’ the range. Using a dirty fossil fuel to create that extra electricity. The battery might have been first charged with electricity from clean sources such as solar power or wind power, or it might have been a blend of electricity from clean sources and a dirty source such as electricity from a coal power plant. I've just seen the future, and it's hydrogen! Just kidding. This GM truck is an amazing illustration of how a determined attempt to prove a point can end up doing pretty much the exact opposite. If this truck is really representative of what hydrogen can offer, then how can we take it seriously for the use cases that it is claimed to be suitable for. Although the article cannot conclude definitively, it certainly looks like this is a case of offering EITHER 300 miles range OR 300kW of export (for a few minutes) but NOT BOTH. But honestly, even if it was both, that still doesn't seem to be very useful where meaningful levels of energy is actually wanted. Maybe if they added a decent battery in the remaining 3 foot bed, then they could make it useful :-) #hydrogenfuel #hydrogenpower #EV #humour https://lnkd.in/eiKDFxEw
