📽️ WEEKLY VIDEO! For today's video we're stepping away from food and taking a look at another critical topic of sustainability: renewable energy. 🗲 With the UK's commitment to decarbonising the energy grid by 2035, huge resources have been dedicated to ramping up renewable energy production, including solar, wind and hydropower. 💨 However our existing infrastructure for transmitting and storing that renewable energy is far behind our capacity to produce it - in fact, at times our wind farms in Scotland already generate so much power that the turbines need to be turned off since we have no way to store it. 🔋 Thankfully the National Grid is halfway through its 2021-26 upgrade program in which it's investing £16 billion to completely overhaul the UK's energy grid. By modernising our infrastructure, we'll be able to more efficiently transmit and store renewable energy - an essential part of reaching net-zero. #sustainability #energy #video https://lnkd.in/ddEFJJ3a

Seven thousand years ago, boats sailed the Nile River, propelled by the wind. Today, wind energy stands as a beacon of sustainability, echoing the past while shaping our future. Let’s explore how this interconnects with us 💨⚡ https://lnkd.in/gFGyExY7 Some highlights from the article: 🔹 The Second Industrial Revolution: Wind electricity generators emerged during this era, but oil soon took center stage. However, the 1970s oil crisis reignited interest in wind energy as a viable alternative. 🌪️🔌 🔹 Europe’s Embrace: Countries like Germany, the Netherlands, and Denmark led the charge in wind energy adoption. Despite environmental challenges, the 1990s witnessed the consolidation of wind energy’s renaissance. By 2019, 1.42 million GWh of wind electricity were generated across 127 countries. China played a pivotal role, accounting for 39% of onshore and 28% of offshore installations. 🌍🌬️ 🔹 Offshore Wind: Offshore wind farms gained momentum globally, constituting 4.8% of total cumulative capacity. Key players included China, the Netherlands, Belgium, the United Kingdom, Germany, Portugal, the USA, and South Korea. Challenges abound, from corrosion risks to ecological impact. 🌊⚙️ 🔹 Engineering Solutions: To ensure resilient wind farm installations, we must address corrosion, fatigue, erosion, and microbiological effects. Innovative designs, corrosion-resistant materials, and robust maintenance procedures are essential. 🛠️🔍 🔹 Leveraging Transferable Knowledge: Asset Integrity Professionals can draw from oil and gas industry experience to build reliable, long-lasting wind infrastructure. Can offshore wind costs return to attractive levels? As one of the least C02 intensive electricity sources, offshore wind can help communities around the world meet their net-zero targets. However, recent project cancellations and cost increases of 40 and 60 percent have raised concerns. Our new research explores how the industry could reemerge into structural profitability. Earlier in the week I saw Jan Rosenow post this picture and some really incredible facts about Global wind power installations and I just had to share... His post says that Global wind power installations reached a new high in 2023, increasing renewable energy's share of total power generation to 30%.... 🌍 let's take a moment to think about how far this industry has come. If we really want to take this back, in the UK the first windmill for electricity was built in 1887 by James Blyth in Glasgow, Scotland. ⚡ The first wind turbine in the United States was installed by American industrialist Charles Bush in 1888, in Cleveland Ohio the 56 foot diameter windmill was used to light his estate! 💡 Or we can REALLY take it back and mention that people used wind energy to propel boats along the Nile River as early as 5,000 BC and by 200 BC simple wind-powered water pumps were used in China and windmills with woven reed blades were grinding grain in Persia and the Middle East AND NOW LOOK AT US 😍 I personally can't wait to see our industry continue to power forward. Let's continue making a positive impact & looking after our Earth🍃 #renewablenergy #windpower #renewablepower #sustainability

I’ve read many, many condemnations of all the subsidies the renewables industry receives from the US government. Here is a brief history of US subsidies for fossil fuels over the last century. That’s $400 billion for O&G, right? And when have renewables gotten $400 billion of “oil depletion allowances” — that O&G still gets even today. https://lnkd.in/ehRuus8m #BatteriesforSolarEnergyStorage #SolarEnergyStorage #EnergyStorage #SolarEnergy #Energy #Solar #Battery #renewableenergy #sustainable #solarpanel #solarinstallation #sustainableenergy #electricity #solarpowered #solarsystem #sunpower #sun #ecofriendly #photovoltaic #nature #climate
