Today is National Canine Lymphoma Awareness Day, a time to spotlight one of the most common cancers in dogs, affecting nearly 70,000 pups each year in the U.S. Canine lymphoma develops from lymphocytes (immune system cells) and can impact many organs, often appearing first in the lymph nodes. Without treatment, life expectancy is only 1-2 months, but with chemotherapy, around 85% of dogs achieve remission. We know these numbers may sound scary, but comparative oncology research is uncovering breakthroughs for both dogs and people. For example, studies in canine lymphoma played a key role in the development of the cancer drug Selinexor, now used in treating certain human cancers. Help us bridge the gap in funding for comparative oncology research that benefits both animals and humans by donating to ACF today 🐾 https://lnkd.in/gYMQ-HEZ

Let’s all get together to raise awareness about Oesophageal Cancer & Barrett’s Oesophagus in Ireland, and show our support for those who are going through a cancer journey It’s about taking action; early detection is key. Ireland has approximately 500 new cases of Oesophageal Cancer annually — one of the highest rates in Europe. More so than with many other cancers, the early signs of Oesophageal Cancer are easy to overlook. Visit the Oesophageal Cancer Fund (OCF) website www.ocf.ie for info and resources and to learn more on the work we do. #fightingcancer #cancerresearch #cancerawareness #oesophagealcancerawareness

Congratulations to Dr Pat Bowden and the TRANSFORM trial team who recently published the five-year results of the trial in the International Journal of Cancer (IJC). The TRANSFORM trial found that stereotactic radiation therapy for metastatic prostate cancer can delay more toxic forms of treatment for more than five years for many patients. Standard treatment options for men living with metastatic prostate cancer include hormone therapy and chemotherapy, which often have significant negative side effects that impact a patient’s quality of life. Icon Cancer Centre Radiation Oncologist and Principal Investigator of the TRANSFORM trial, Dr Bowden (pictured below right in today's edition of The Australian newspaper) says there are no notable toxicities associated with stereotactic radiation therapy. The TRANSFORM trial is supported by Icon Cancer Foundation, the not-for-profit charity that raises funds to support Icon Cancer Centre’s network of doctors and healthcare professionals to do vital independent research. Testicular cancer strikes young. Testicular cancer is the most common cancer in young Canadian men aged 15–29. Watch this great little video https://lnkd.in/gPGyD_E So, know your nuts. It’s that simple. Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Canadian men. Early detection is key. The difference between early detection and late detection can be life and death. If detected early 98% chance of survival beyond 5 years. If detected late, there is a 26% chance of survival beyond 5 years. When detected early, prostate cancer survival rates are better than 98%. Find it late, and those survival rates drop below 26%. So again with just a few of these facts is why I need all of you to help donate to find cures and raise awareness. Look me up and donate Http://mobro.co/lorneputnam #Movember #Movember2024 #Cancer #Prostatecancer #Testicularcancer Movember

September is Blood Cancer Awareness Month! This global event has helped raising awareness for all types of blood cancer since 2010. Blood cancers are one of the world’s most prevalent cancers, especially in children. They come in many forms and shapes, depending on the origin of the malignant cells. Raising awareness for blood cancer, its signs, symptoms and impact, can help to improve early diagnosis, encourage policymakers to enhance funding for research, as well as make people affected by blood cancer connected and heard. memoinoncology.com provides frequent updates on current research, especially progress in treatment options for haematological cancers. Do you know that breast cancer (BC) accounts for ¼th of all cancer cases in Nigeria and is the leading cause of cancer mortality, with 20.5% of all cancer-related deaths, (Ferlay et al., 2024)? Unlike in developed countries, where only 10% of all BC are Triple Negative Breast cancer (TNBC), Nigeria's breast cancer distribution is characterised by 47.4% TNBC (Adeniji et al., 2020). This suggested that the high cancer mortality in Nigeria might largely be from TNBC. To read more on TNBC: https://lnkd.in/dvhMnZww

Research Spotlight: Tackling Tumour Tissue Stiffness in Bowel Cancer Did you know that up to 50% of colorectal cancer patients experience a recurrence of the disease, even after treatment? Dr Nick Peake and his team at Sheffield Hallam University are investigating why this happens, with a focus on the role of tumour tissue stiffness. Their study explores how stiffer, denser tumours are linked to a higher risk of recurrence and aims to find ways to target the proteins responsible for this stiffness. Using laboratory-grown mini-tumours, they’re working on potential new treatments that could help prevent bowel cancer from returning. Read our research article to learn more about this innovative study, and if you’re inspired, please consider donating to support pioneering research like this! Amazing work! It just shows that we need to be more vigilant especially in the unscreened population (<50 yrs) which comprises 23% of all breast cancer cases. These women tend to present with more biologically aggressive cancers and late in the disease process ( metastatic) . Early diagnosis saves lives Know your risk factors - family history/ breast density/ polygenic score Seek advice and appropriate management if you have breast symptoms- lump/ nipple discharge /nipple retraction/ skin tethering / nipple-areolar rash. Note - a negative mammogram and ultrasound in the setting of a breast lump needs to be investigated further especially in the setting of dense breast tissue #checkthosebreasts #preventionisbetterthancure. #liveyourbestlife #australianbreastcarecentre #genetype
After yesterday’s momentous announcement that people with metastatic breast cancer (MBC) have finally been counted in NSW, we’re reflecting on all the work and people who’ve made it possible. The National Round Table led by BCNA in Canberra 2023 - was the catalyst for Cancer Institute NSW to go in search of a solution to the data issue. The late Peta Murphy MP (featured above) supported BCNA's roadmap to ensure all those with metastatic breast cancer are counted. For more information about the announcement click here: https://lnkd.in/gu7K7NuA We recognise the emotional weight of yesterday's announcement on those affected by breast cancer. BCNA is here to provide support and resources to help you navigate through any fears or anxieties you may be experiencing. Call BCNA’s Helpline on 1800 500 258 between Monday – Friday 9am – 5pm. #icounttoo #mbccounts #bcnapinklady

Every year over 21 000 Australians are diagnosed with breast cancer. The devastating effect this disease has on sufferers as well as their family members, friends and loved ones is unfathomable. Turner International would like to acknowledge the tragic impact this disease is having across the globe and the importance of raising awareness and supporting each other in early detection. We support those organisations that promote breast cancer awareness, support and treatment. One of those organisations is the National Breast Cancer Foundation, whose vision is to have zero deaths from breast cancer in the future. #BreastCancerAwareness #NBCF #ZeroDeaths #BreastCancerResearch
