Continued: The list we compiled from our survey was based on industry-leading data sources but lacked clarity and refinement. There were far too many terms, many of which were catch-all terms rather than true core categories. The data, while correct, was overly broad and didn't offer a simple way to filter or make meaningful comparisons. Additionally, during some demos, companies struggled to define their baseline solutions or core event technologies clearly. Their presentations often became confusing, and workflows were difficult to follow. Even with detailed notes, summarizing the results and understanding the value of their offering was challenging. This all points to a larger problem—no established benchmark for the event tech industry exists. Every company presents its solutions differently, often as variations of the same core technologies. Website terminology is inconsistent, and phrases like "All-In-One" make it even harder to categorize offerings. This lack of standardization makes it difficult for potential customers to research effectively and find the solutions that will actually help them. But what if there were a set of standards that vendors could work from? If these companies had clearer categories and terminology to build upon, it would likely make finding them easier for their ideal customers. The ability to filter through options accurately would reduce the overwhelming number of choices, and if consistency were in place, buyers could filter further, increasing the chances of making better matches. Ultimately, without such standards, the process remains inefficient for both buyers and sellers. The industry needs a clearer framework to help technology providers differentiate themselves and help customers find the right solutions with less friction. #EventTech #IndustryStandards #EventTechStandards #TechnologyMatching
Are We Defining Event Tech Correctly? Event tech websites tell us very little about what a solution does. Without a way to filter categorizations, making accurate matches becomes increasingly complicated. But what if we could redefine how we categorize platforms, creating categories that become industry standards? This is where value begins. #EventTech #Innovation #GoLucid #EventTechStandards

"Defining Event Tech Standards" In today’s market, selecting event tech is difficult. Without a way to filter solutions, the larger the list becomes, the lower the probability of making accurate matches. But what if we could redefine how we categorize platforms—creating specific categories that align with industry standards? Here’s the challenge: those standards don’t exist yet. That’s where GoLucid, LLC comes in. Imagine if GoLucid was working to create those industry benchmarks, making it easier for solutions to explain what they offer clearly and for buyers to trust that the terms they use are accurate and validated. This would lead to more precise research results and foster a deeper understanding of technology advancements. GoLucid, LLC gathered a wealth of information in its research process. So far, we've identified and classified over 450+ companies in the event technology space. Our research involved reviewing their websites and flagging them in our master database, as verified through this initial step. From there, we contacted companies to set up introduction meetings, clarify who GoLucid is, and gather specific data points about their event technology framework. As part of this engagement, we asked companies to complete a survey on two verticals: 1. The event segments they serve, and 2. The specific event technologies they offer. Finally, we scheduled hour-long demos where companies could present their platform, explaining how they operate, what problems they solve, and who their ideal customer profile is. While not all 450+ companies completed the full lifecycle, a significant sample did, giving us valuable insight into how these platforms function. However, we realized our research had gaps, particularly in the second vertical question about the event technologies they offer. Due to word count, this will be continued here: https://lnkd.in/gnhm8pfz

"Too Many Categories, Too Much Confusion" If we took every term used in event tech today, we’d end up with over 100 categories—many of which are just terms, not actual categories. The goal is to start with a clear set of core categories and refine them over time, ensuring we don’t overcomplicate things from the start. #EventTech #GoLucid #EventTechStandards

“A lot of people are going down this path of technology for technology’s sake, which I strongly disagree with. You always have to start by understanding the problem and key needs.” I recently had the pleasure of speaking with Lauren Chan Lee of Leap Event Technology about her approach to incorporating customer feedback throughout the product life cycle and continually reinforcing company strategy with her teams. Lauren talked about key pain points in live event technology management, including timing and spikes in web traffic, and how she mitigates them. She also shared several examples of times her team has leveraged technology as well as in-person observations at live events to add new features and unexpected delights to existing products. #ProductLeadership #ProductManagementLeadership #EventTech Link in the 1st comment 👇
