"Holding Back Climate Progress: Sustainability's Critical Skills Gap" - research report launch takes place this Thursday. The findings are from interviews with 21 senior sustainability leaders and survey responses from 138 sustainability practitioners from over 21 countries. Adding depth to existing reports through a rich exposition of sustainability leaders' voices, the report tells the story of the changing context of sustainability work and the implications for #skills development for the #greentransition. As sustainability becomes part of everyone's job, we shed light on core #softskills and attributes and how we can all affect #influence and #change through embedding a culture of #climatechange #leadership through a #coaching mindset. #Students preparing to enter the workforce are especially welcome, as well as #educators interested in connecting soft skills to the #sustainability into #businesseducation. Efrem Bycer (from 'Sustainability and Workforce Partnerships LinkedIn) recently posted that "The data are clear: the future of work is more human, digital, and sustainable". In alignment with Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME), our report positions #wellbeing and #empowerment at the core of #humanistic management for a #greenerworld. Such skills and values are embedded within Business and Management programmes at Oxford Brookes Business School and I am thankful to work with Charly Cox, Co-Founder Climate Change Coaches-cert B Corp as an Entrepreneur in Residence. #collaboration #greenertogether

How can innovation and global collaboration transform the response to climate change? 🌍 To analyze it, the “Climate Change & Environmental Sustainability” conference, held on October 📅 28-29 in 📌Rome. Organized by Scisynopsis Conferences and moderated by Nancy Butler, it brought together participants from more than 15 countries who gave presentations on new solutions. Among them, our expert Sergio Clemente Castro gave a presentation and presented a poster on the Hoop project (#Horizon2020), focused on vitalizing urban bioeconomies in European cities. In this sense, he unveiled results of the optimization and characterization of oil extraction using supercriticalCO2 as solvent, from coffee grounds waste. More info: https://lnkd.in/d5N5q7hA

🌍 #COP29 starts in only 10 days from now 🌍 With COP29 just around the corner, it’s clearer than ever that climate justice needs to become the norm. If those responsible for pollution don’t bear the cost, it falls upon all of us – society at large – to pay the price, as the terrible ongoing floods in Spain starkly remind us. As we look to the upcoming discussions, let’s remember that the stakes extend far beyond borders or economies. They are about the well-being and survival of communities worldwide, especially the most vulnerable. Here is an insightful article that sheds light on how global crises can teach us collective responsibility. In the article, a powerful parallel is drawn between the response to Covid-19 and climate action: "I think that Covid-19 taught us something important: people can act to protect others, and can do so quickly. For many people, getting vaccinated or wearing masks was less about protecting yourself than about making sure there was social protection (especially for those who are elderly or those who have weak immune systems and cannot take vaccines themselves). In some ways, climate change is like that: countries need to act partially to protect more vulnerable countries, countries which are often both poorer and without the infrastructure to protect themselves. I think those are heartening lessons and I hope we transfer them to other ways of protecting the vulnerable." As we saw with the pandemic, a sense of duty to protect others motivated swift action. COP29 is a pivotal moment to apply these lessons, making climate action a universal responsibility. Wishing Gaëtan De Baene and all the European Climate Youth Delegates all the best as they head to COP29 – your dedication to this cause represents the steps we all need to take toward a fairer, more resilient path forward, for all the future generations 🌱 #ClimateJustice #CollectiveResponsibility #ClimateAction #Sustainability

Solving the environmental crisis we're in is a critically important topic for everyone to consider in life and at work, from individual contributors to the c-suite. We hear about the climate and biodiversity crisis, and the need to transform business, but the frameworks and jargon can be confusing. What does net zero actually mean? What are the world’s SDGs? What are carbon emissions and how can we reduce them? 🌍 🚀 Just finished the course “Sustainability Foundations: Core Concepts” by Amy Luers! Such an interesting and relevant topic and a crucial point for the industry 👏 #environmentalsustainability.

🌱 The Power of a Shared Vision for a Sustainable Future 🌄 Crafting a shared vision for change is essential for inspiring the actions necessary today to advance us towards a sustainable future. The article from Politico serves as an example of painting such a vision that inspires and still seems realistic, incorporating some of the negative consequences of the climate crisis in the year 2040. Read the Politico article: https://lnkd.in/dtNUp35K As the article focuses on the EU, the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD), among other regulations, have the potential to guide companies towards more sustainable and transparent practices. It is hoped that these directives create a shift beyond mere compliance towards a unified commitment to sustainability. It reminded me of the work of Costanza on "Visions for the Future" and the importance of deciding on a shared vision and working towards it. This extends not only to global and national contexts but also to companies and individuals transitioning to a sustainable future. Read Costanza's work: https://lnkd.in/dvhiRx3n ⏩ What are your thoughts on the future of the EU as envisioned in the Politico article? Please share your insights. #Sustainability #CSRD #CSDDD #EURegulations #ClimateAction #CorporateResponsibility

Sustainable lifestyles, green-tech innovation, and government-led transformation each offer promising routes to make significant progress towards the SDGs and Paris Agreement, according to a new study. The research was led by the PIK - Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research and co-authored by Copernicus Institute researchers Geanderson Ambrósio, Vassilis Daioglou & Detlef Van Vuuren. Contrary to the belief that the path to sustainable development is increasingly out of reach, the results show that humankind has a variety of pathways to depart from its current unsustainable trajectory.
