Autonomous machines have been successfully deployed in mining for almost 2 decades, while other off-road industries like construction and quarry have only recently warmed up to its potential. It's great to see several technology players emerge over the last few years to serve these industries with innovative technology using remote control, robotics, and self-driving capabilities. Industrial robotic technologies have been a mainstay of many industries for decades now, and are only getting better and better! The earliest examples likely originated in automotive assembly plants in the 1960s. Today, the oil and gas industry benefits from such robotic tools as: 1️⃣ Smart pigs that scour the insides of pipelines for fractures and corrosion 2️⃣ Remotely operated vehicles for inspecting and repairing subsea infrastructure 3️⃣ Aerial drones for inspecting assets at height 4️⃣ Robotic tank cleaning robots that remove sludge build up in storage tanks and inspect for damage. ARIX Technologies has pioneered the development of a powerful analytics engine for analyzing the enormous volume of pipeline inspection data that it collects using its new robotic pipeline crawler. This innovation unlocks an entirely new product category, and to learn more about pipeline robotics I sat down with Dianna Liu , the CEO and founder of ARIX Technologies to discuss the impact of this technology on the industry. [EVENT] Robots v Humans at OTC Some 28 robots made an appearance at OTC Houston 2024 edition. All sorts of robots: crawling robots, swimming robots, flying robots. For now, humans outnumbered robots at the Houston event to the tune of 1000 to 1. The offshore oil and gas industry is beginning to embrace robotic technologies[1] as a means of improving operational efficiency, increasing worker safety, and reducing costs. Autonomous robots are being used topsides to read gauges, detect leaks, scan the horizon, take video and audio recordings, and identify anomalies. Vallourec’s Delphy large-scale hydrogen storage system[2] has its own robotic inspection[3] little helper, the Rover. Same as in the offshore world, the robotic inspection allows Vallourec to increase safety, and reduce CAPEX. Confirming internal weld condition is particularly important in critical pipeline sections, which must maintain their integrity under enormous fatigue.
