Excellent piece Les. I have talked for many years about the need to move from competition to co-opetition in school improvement. This approach has existed in sport for many years, where well resourced larger clubs, develop players by supporting smaller clubs, through creating more competitive and entertaining games. I believe that in Midlothian (SE Scotland), we are about to realise this vision, through the construction of a new equitable Senior phase curriculum, across all 6 secondaries. The Midlothian Aligned Curriculum Offer (MACO), provides industry supported (school based) career education qualifications to all learners. Traditional academic options have also been enhanced. Our Headteachers are collaboratively funding this improvement, at a financially challenging time, when we have no option but to come together.
