Did you know that New York and Massachusetts grid carbon intensity increased by ~17% between 2018 and 2022 along with 6 other states also reporting increases. Meanwhile in CA, heralded as leading the transition only managed to reduce its carbon intensity of the gid by 2% in the same period. We often get asked the qs, if my utility is deploying more renewables and cleaning up the grid why can I not just wait? The reality is with increasing energy demand we will likely see the opposite. Learn more in our latest #RenewableRides podcast episode - linked in the comments below. If we want to reduce our emissions while reducing costs and increasing control, there is only one way to do that and it is with onsite energy. Knowing where to build and what system to build is key to our business success.

Can the oil and gas industry be part of the energy transition? There is a heated debate about this. According to me, last year’s COP28 proved that they can, and that change will not happen by locking them out of the discussion. In our latest episode of The Switch – to a green economy, Kristina Hagström-Ilievska and I interview Allyson Anderson Book, Chief Sustainability Officer at Baker Hughes. Coming from a history of over 100 years serving the oil and gas industry, they were among the first in their sector to announce such a target. In only three years, they reduced their greenhouse gas emissions by 28%. And they’re committed to getting to net zero by 2050. What do you think? Can change happen from within the fossil fuel industry itself? Tune in on YouTube, Spotify or Apple Podcasts. #GreenEnergy #Sustainability #EcoInnovation #TheSwitch #GreenEconomy

It's Friday, and in case you missed it, this week on the #ClimateConfident #podcast, I had the pleasure of diving into the evolving world of energy with Emily Brown Easley, founder of Novus Energy. 🌍✨ Emily shared her invaluable insights on how significant legislative changes, like the Inflation Reduction Act, are reshaping the energy sector, particularly highlighting the increasing importance of renewable energies and innovative technologies such as energy storage solutions. We also tackled the role of U.S. manufacturing in driving forward these sustainable practices and how businesses need to adapt to stay competitive and responsible in this rapidly changing landscape. One of the key takeaways was the strategic adaptation required by companies to not only comply with new regulations but to thrive in an environmentally conscious market. Emily shed light on the complexities of the regulatory environment and investment trends that are pivotal in shaping the future of energy. 🎧 Tune in to grasp a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities that are defining the future of our energy consumption and production. Check out the audio of this podcast: https://lnkd.in/ekfdQwJm And/or the video version: https://lnkd.in/eQdeTMhx With the current pace of innovation and policy change, are traditional energy companies adapting fast enough to stay relevant in the next decade? As we welcome the new year, let's focus on the state of play of the energy transition in Southeast Asia (#SEA). Sharing their insights on Topsoe’s Fuel for Thought Podcast, GenZero’s Nicholas Ong and Edmund S. spoke to the driving forces behind SEA’s energy transformation, from innovative financing models to the role of #renewables and alternative fuels like Sustainable Aviation Fuel (#SAF). Beyond discussing the challenges of scaling green technologies, Nicholas and Edmund emphasised the urgent need for stronger climate policies, and the pivotal role #carbonmarkets play in facilitating the transition. These insights align with key findings from #GenZero’s recent report with BloombergNEF, titled 𝘈𝘴𝘪𝘢 𝘗𝘢𝘤𝘪𝘧𝘪𝘤'𝘴 𝘌𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘨𝘺 𝘛𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘖𝘶𝘵𝘭𝘰𝘰𝘬, which underscores the importance of affordable financing and the growing role of renewables in shaping the region's energy future. Some key takeaways from the podcast: 🌱 Affordable Financing and Blended Finance are Key: High capital costs in emerging markets are a significant barrier to climate investment in SEA. Blended financing, concessional capital, and debt financing can help make projects viable and encourage private sector involvement. ⚡ Renewables for Energy Affordability and Security: Renewable energy is set to be a cornerstone of SEA’s energy future, offering both #affordability and #energysecurity. However, the grid and dispatchable energy supply must expand to meet growing demand. 🛢️ Growth of Renewable Fuel Production: SEA is expanding its renewable fuel production, with major refineries increasing output. While SAF will likely be exported in the short term, local demand is expected to rise steadily. 📜 Accelerating Policy Action: To meet #netzero goals, SEA must implement stronger climate policies that support existing green technologies, accelerate nascent solutions, and provide the financing needed to scale. 🌍 Carbon Markets for Systemic Change: Carbon pricing and well-structured carbon markets are essential for shifting the economic landscape in favour of green solutions, driving broader systemic change. Thanks Sylvain Verdier and Mikala Grubb for hosting GenZero on the podcast! 🎧 Listen to the Fuel for Thought Podcast episode featuring Nicholas and Edmund here: https://lnkd.in/diE6uPKh
