Urgency, acuity, complexity and severity - what do they mean? ✔️ Urgency or acuity - how quickly a patient needs to be seen to prevent deterioration or further pain and suffering ✔️ Complexity - the difficulty of the patient's medical, social, psychological and environmental issues impacting the level of resources needed to find a solution ✔️ Severity - the extent of musculoskeletal or organ system derangement, or physiological decompensation. Note: A patient with a lower level of urgency may still have a high level of complexity or severity. Thank you Pulse--voices from the heart of medicine for publishing my piece. The prompt was “on being different,” which immediately made me want to write about how much I feel we are all fundamentally similar. My Shared Experience: A diagnosis, a difficult (perhaps unwanted) gift. A gift that helped me find more joy, more compassion, and more opportunity to connect with patients. After all, we are all people facing challenges trying to find hope, strength, and courage despite them. We all feel different, which is what makes us the same. In medicine, this constant reminder keeps me humble and aware. Read the full article at https://lnkd.in/gJh9CrPr #hospitalmedicine #internalmedicine #compassioninmedicine #braincancerawareness

This recent study highlights new Clinical Practice Guidelines published by the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), encouraging physical therapists to, "recommend telerehabilitation or hybrid care, as they are at least equivalent to in-person physical therapy with respect to patient acceptability and satisfaction and are superior to in-person physical therapy with respect to adherence and attendance for certain health conditions”. Have you begun to leverage the full potential of virtual therapy in your care? Check out the full study here: https://bit.ly/3VvIWFz
