The seismic response of subway station structures is closely related to the surrounding soil site. In this study by Yan et al. (2024), published in Underground Space Journal, centrifuge shaking table tests are designed and carried out for subway station structures at three typical soft soil sites (all-clay site, liquefiable interlayer site, and fully liquefiable site). The seismic response patterns and the effects of site specificity on the seismic response of the structures are analyzed. LAIBIN, https://lnkd.in/gsMWdrnA demonstrates building responses to earthquakes with three main scenarios: 1️⃣ Base Isolation: Isolators decouple the superstructure from ground motion, drastically lowering seismic force transmission and resonance effects. 2️⃣ Seismic Dampers: These devices dissipate vibrational energy, reducing inter-story drift and structural stress. 3️⃣ No Seismic Technology: Buildings are rigidly connected to the foundation, fully absorbing seismic energy, resulting in significant structural deformation and potential collapse. These comparisons highlight the critical role of seismic protection in structural integrity during seismic events. Check #mehrtashsoltani for more!

"(A) Strike-oriented seismic section illustrating a close-up view of the studied channels (C2 in Fig. 5) and their associated seismic facies 1 and 2. Three types of seismic-reflection terminations are shown. (B) Schematic diagram illustrating cross-sectional view of the structure of bottom current-induced helical flow circulation in the studied channels.
