🎗 On World Suicide Prevention Day it is important to highlight our commitment to supporting our team's mental health and remind people of the help that is out there. Earlier this year, our strong safety record earned us a fifth RoSPA Gold award. The award not only recognises our efforts to keep people safe from physical harm in their daily work, but acknowledges the measures we have implemented to support their mental health and wellbeing. Since the pandemic, there has been a heightened focus on mental health by employers. At Aptus we have reinforced our commitment with substantial investment, providing mental health awareness training to all colleagues who choose to participate. The engagement from our team has been outstanding, with more than forty individuals having completed training with MHFA England® - which has significantly contributed to our positive health and safety culture. 💚 Mental Health Ambassadors are now on hand throughout our organisation, from our offices to our depots and operational sites, to lend support to anyone who may need it. We are also supporters of The Lighthouse Charity, who understand the unique challenges facing construction workers and their families. They offer free resources including a helpline, app and wellbeing training, including a Suicide Awareness Course. Visit ➡https://lnkd.in/erqAQz75 ✅ In line with our commitment, we regularly assess and enhance our mental health support to meet our team's needs. Training more individuals in mental health awareness raises the likelihood that people will express their concerns, which could be lifesaving. We encourage anyone in need of help to speak out and seek support. In this discussion, HSQE Manager Delicia Maxwell outlines our strategy and explains why we consider the mental health and wellbeing of our team members to be as critical as their physical health and safety. ➡https://lnkd.in/e6P_WtEQ #WorldSuicidePreventionDay #mentalhealthawareness #construction

On this World Suicide Prevention Day, we at Vytal feel that this article highlights a critical issue: the construction industry's suicide rate is nearly four times higher than the general population. In 2022, there were five times more suicides in construction than at-work fatalities. Knowing this, we try to improve every day at protecting our employees' mental well-being through comprehensive support and an open, supportive culture. Let's prioritize mental health together. https://lnkd.in/ec7ykhaz #ConstructionIndustrySuicidePrevention #FiberNetworkWellness #EmployeeWellBeingMatters #EndConstructionSuicide #FiberNetSupport #WorldSuicidePreventionDay

This World Suicide Prevention Day, we want to recognise one organisation doing life-saving work in the mental health space that we’re proud to partner with – MATES in Construction NZ 👷 MATES is a not-for-profit dedicated to tackling mental health challenges in the construction industry and providing education and tools to support workers. As part of our ongoing partnership, ASB is now the proud sponsor of the MATES in Construction’s 0800 Supportline, a crucial lifeline for the industry, operating 24/7. With approximately 1,200 calls annually, the Supportline provides immediate support in an industry where timely intervention can be life-saving. We hope to help increase resource and awareness, as well as provide further education to better support workers. Yesterday, we had the privilege to host MATES and representatives from the industry at ASB for a panel discussion of the latest research by MATES, looking into the wellbeing of workers, which we helped to fund. The results show that while mental health is improving overall, with 85% of workers reporting good mental health in 2023, some groups, like younger workers and workers with disabilities, remain particularly vulnerable to mental health challenges. Read the full report via link in the comments 👇 We’re proud to be part of the conversation for mental health in Aotearoa – today, and every day.

In any given year, one in four people around the world experience a mental or substance use disorder and more than 700,000 people die by suicide. In 2022, 1 in 20 adults in the US reported serious thoughts of suicide and nearly 1 out of 10 youth met criteria for a substance use disorder. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) introduced the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline in July 2022 to support individuals experiencing a behavioral health crisis. With a $1.5 billion investment to increase access to crisis care, including “Someone to talk to. Someone to respond. A safe place for help”, SAMHSA’s 988 crisis counselors have answered more than 10 million calls, chats, and texts. The McKinsey Health Institute was honored to support the design and roll-out of 988 through active partnerships with National Association of State Mental Health Program Directors (NASMHPD), RI International, and Vibrant Emotional Health, and collaboration with SAMHSA, NAMI, and National Council for Mental Wellbeing, among others. We’re turning now to improving crisis response at a global level – not only “whom do we call?” in a moment of crisis, but also “how should we respond?” To advance this dialogue, MHI leaders joined RI International, Global Leadership Exchange, and 100 global leaders at the Crisis Now 3 Summit to craft a set of guiding principles to inform crisis care around the world. Widespread adoption of these principles could facilitate development of effective, evidence-based crisis care that centers the needs of individuals while addressing local and regional context. We look forward to sharing more as we coordinate with global stakeholders to further refine and adapt these principles. Read about our work to support 988: https://lnkd.in/eREYPYwT
