We are pleased to announce a new step forward in our shared commitment to build a solid CO2 infrastructure in the Netherlands. The public consultation period (terinzagelegging) for the first draft permits of the Aramis initiative has taken place from 13 September to 24 October. During this period, the projects within the Aramis initiative organized two public consultation meetings, together with the Ministerie van Klimaat en Groene Groei. These meetings offered opportunities for the public to gain comprehensive insights into the initiative and the projects, while allowing interested parties to engage directly with representatives from both the Ministry and the Aramis initiative. In the Aramis initiative, the Aramis project is working closely together with 5 other projects: CO2next (CO2 terminal), Porthos (compressor station) and the three storage projects of Shell, TotalEnergies and Eni. The scale of the Aramis initiative – with numerous permits and close regulatory oversight – highlights the importance of strong partnerships and transparent dialogue. We thank all stakeholders, the Ministerie van Klimaat en Groene Groei, CO2next and everyone involved for their constructive collaboration and valuable input throughout this phase. A final decision on this first round of permit applications is expected during the first half of 2025. This is an encouraging step towards a timely needed CO2 infrastructure which enables transport to offshore storage sites. Multiple large and smaller storage opportunities are studied and matured to deliver the CCS targets (see Net Zero Industry Act). The latest report from Planbureau Leefomgeving (www.pbl.nl) warns that NL 2030 climate targets are unlikely to be met (idem 2040 and 2050 targets). CCS in depleted end-of-life hydrocarbon fields form an inevitable part of the short-medium term path forward to reach these goals. Government holds the key to accelerate permitting.

European PCI Energy Days in Brussels Yesterday, European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson opened the 5th edition of the PCI Energy Days. This two-day event focuses on connecting energy systems across Europe and sharing successful examples of overcoming challenges in modernizing energy infrastructure to meet the EU’s 2030 climate targets. Highlights include the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) signing ceremony, where the European Commission granted €124 million to the Aramis CCS project. Our Integration Director, Tom Mathysen expressed gratitude for the EC’s recognition of the project’s contribution to decarbonisation, especially highlighting the need to cooperate – across projects, across the value chain and across countries. This grant supports the development of a cross-border CCS value chain, crucial for the Netherlands and Europe’s climate goals. Aramis CCS, along with Porthos, CO2next, and Delta Rhine Corridor, showcase their collaborative efforts in the PCI Garden, highlighting the Netherlands’ role in shaping Europe’s CCS infrastructure. This infrastructure will play a vital role in the energy transition by facilitating decarbonisation efforts within the European Union. Let’s shape the future of energy together! #EnergyInnovation #Sustainability #EU2030 #PCIProjects #EnergyInfrastructure #PCIdaysEU #CEFEnergy #CINEA

The 100th anniversary of the World Energy Council was marked by the 26th World Energy Congress in Rotterdam. With Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, the Chairman of the UEA Troika as guest speaker during the VIP opening dinner in the Wereldmuseum in Rotterdam. The numbers below speak for themselves. Compliments to Angela Wilkinson, the #WEC Sec Gen who hosted the proceedings for having chosen #RedesigningEnergy for People & Planet as the theme of the Congress and for including below session on "People Power: Global Energy Literacy by 2030?" As Advisory Board Chairman of IIER, known for it's 'Energy & Stuff' website, see: https://lnkd.in/ef2_tnzr and as Co-Founder & Ambassador of the EU STEM Coalition that seeks to foster sySTEMic thinking, I was delighted to introduce and moderate this session with Energy Sector top experts such as Maria van der Hoeven, Linda Steg, Abubakar Sambo, R.P. Gupta and Jacqui Mills. They each gave examples of misunderstandings, knowledge gaps and best practices in how to bridge these gaps. The panelists all agreed that energy is the core foundation of society as we know it today but that indeed we need to 'Redesign Energy' - both the supply & demand side. Making endings & new beginnings at the same time. In order to conduct the necessary transition in a civilised & peaceful way, it is of paramount importance to understand both Energy, Eco-system & Resources reality better. ➡️ '(Re)Imagine our Future to come, which will be Different from our Expectations' ▶️ https://lnkd.in/eAbZ_9Vr #Arctic, #Climate, #Education, #Energy, #ERT, #Resources, #STEM, #WEF, #WBCSD European Round Table for Industry - ERT, International Energy Agency (IEA), International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), United Nations, UNFCCC UN, WBCSD – World Business Council for Sustainable Development, World Economic Forum

Elia Transmission Belgium (Elia Group) and the European Investment Bank (EIB) have signed a €650 million green credit facility agreement to fund the first phase of the Princess Elisabeth project, which is set to become the world's first artificial energy island. Located 45 kilometres off the Belgian coast, the island will serve as a hub for Belgium's second offshore wind zone, the 3.5 GW Princess Elisabeth Zone. It will also function as a connection point for future interconnectors linking Belgium to neighbouring countries. The construction phase has been initiated, and will feature a nature-inclusive design to support marine biodiversity, with the island scheduled for completion in 2027. It will be the first artificial energy island to host both high-voltage direct current (HVDC) and alternating current (HVAC) infrastructure. The project, backed by the EU's REPowerEU initiative, is seen as a significant step towards enhancing Belgium's and Europe's energy security and independence. ⚡ Follow MPS (Modern Power Systems) for all the latest news daily from the global power generation industry ⚡ #MPS #power #hvdc #renewableenergy #energysecurity #energytransition
