Today, we commemorate Juneteenth, the historic day on June 19, 1865, when the last enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, were informed of their freedom over two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. Not only must we take this day to reflect on the struggles and achievements of the Black community, but we must also recognize the ongoing fight for civil rights and social justice in our modern day society. It is imperative that we remain committed to advocating for justice, equality, and inclusion in all of our work. May we all honor this day by continuing to dismantle systemic injustices and promote a world in which everyone’s rights can be protected and respected. *ATTORNEY ADVERTISING* *PRIOR RESULTS DO NOT GUARANTEE A SIMILAR OUTCOME* #Attorney #Lawyer #Law #Lawfirm #Legal #Lawyers #NYC #Justice #AttorneyAtLaw #Attorneys #AttorneyLife #Litigation #CorporateGovernance #OperationalCompliance #ContractAgreements #Restructuring #KILegal #40WallStreet #Juneteenth #Equality #EqualRights #Emancipation #Freedom

The reason for tickets is to generate revenue.
FFJC’s Nevada State Director Leisa Moseley-Sayles joined the UNLV William S. Boyd School of Law Program on Race, Gender & Policing’s Black Legal Futurism conference. In speaking on the policing panel, she explained how unpaid traffic violations are actually one of the most common ways people get enmeshed in the legal system. In an effort to generate revenue, state and local governments tack on steep fees to even minor tickets. Learn more about the nationwide impact of these kinds of fines and fees in our survey with Wilson Center for Science and Justice at Duke Law here: https://lnkd.in/eFYw9vtm

💭 Reflecting on Justice: The Case of Marcellus Williams 💭 This week, the case of Marcellus Williams in Missouri has reignited crucial discussions about the fairness of our justice system. Williams, who spent over two decades on death row, maintained his innocence until his execution. His case highlights troubling issues regarding DNA evidence and racial bias in jury selection. Key Concerns: 1️⃣ DNA Evidence: Williams' DNA was not found on the murder weapon, yet he was still convicted and ultimately executed. 2️⃣ Jury Composition: The exclusion of black jurors from his trial raises serious questions about potential racial bias. 3️⃣ Clemency Denied: Despite substantial doubts surrounding his conviction, clemency was denied, sparking outrage and calls for reform. Broader Implications: This case forces us to reflect on the US justice system and ask difficult questions: - How do we ensure every individual receives a fair trial? - What steps can we take to prevent miscarriages of justice? These issues deserve our attention, and more importantly, our action. 🛑 Call to Action: Let’s honour the memory of those affected by standing up for a more just and equitable system. It’s time to push for reforms that ensure justice is truly served. #Justice #HumanRights #DeathPenalty #LegalReform #FairTrials #Equality
