I am excited to be in Paris at the St Denis office, 2 weeks after starting my new role as Head of Region for Europe. Today, I had the opportunity to present my plan for elevating Europe to the next level. While I can't share all the details, I want to highlight three key points: One Team: Internally, we all need each other, from sales to delivery to legal to finance to HR, etc. Together we can ensure a seamless and efficient experience for our customers. Customer First: Every action we take should prioritize the needs of our customers, ensuring that our actions enhance their satisfaction and loyalty Focus: By clearly defining our priorities, we can streamline our efforts, reducing internal distractions and delivering exceptional value in the initiatives that matter most to our customers. I so appreciate the messages from partners across the industry today asking how I’m doing and if I’m honest, I’m concerned. The proposal to move Tātaki Auckland Unlimited’s destination function into council is something we should all care deeply about. If it goes ahead, Auckland would become the only major city in New Zealand without an independent Regional Tourism Organisation (RTO). Constant change is a huge distraction, but despite this, TAU’s results speak for themselves. As an arms-length RTO, we successfully deliver and attract major and business events, promote Auckland as a vibrant place to live and visit, and showcase our region on the global stage. To remain effective and continue delivering these results, it’s critical that we retain our independent structure. We are committed to helping the region thrive, but we need the support of our industry to keep driving this progress. Potentially, there will be no formal public consultation and a decision finalised in the next few weeks. My hope is that our industry partners will use their platforms to ensure Auckland stays forward-focused and globally competitive.
