The power of storytelling in organisational change Last week, our fellow Arcondians Jens Gaida and Carsten Schminke took center stage at [um]denk[bar] umdenkbar in Oberursel / Germany, captivating the audience with their insights on the power of vision and storytelling in change management. They explored how compelling narratives can motivate teams, align stakeholders, and ultimately lead organisations to successfully navigate change. Their message was clear: A strong vision isn't just about direction; it's about connecting people to a shared future, inspiring action, and making the journey resonate on a human level. An essential part of making visions and supporting narratives effective in change management is ensuring they are supported by actionable steps. Narratives alone can inspire, but actionable steps provide the roadmap that makes the vision achievable. By breaking down the change journey into clear, practical actions, organisations can help teams understand their roles, maintain momentum, and see tangible progress towards the shared vision. It was fantastic to see the audience engage with these ideas, sparking lively discussions about managing change in the digital era. Unlocking the Power of Narrative: How Storytelling Drives Successful Change Management 🚀 In our ever-evolving business landscape, change is the only constant. But here's a plot twist: the secret to navigating this change might just lie in an age-old human tradition - storytelling! 📚✨ As someone who's weathered many storms of digital transformation and organizational shifts, I've learned that facts and figures alone don't inspire people to embrace change. It's the stories we tell that truly move hearts and minds. Here's why storytelling is your secret weapon in change management: 1. Emotional Connection: Stories tap into our emotions, making the abstract concept of change feel personal and relatable. #EmotionalIntelligence 2. Visualization: A well-crafted narrative helps team members envision the future state, turning uncertainty into excitement. #FutureOfWork 3. Memory Retention: People remember stories 22 times more than facts alone. That's some serious ROI for your change communications! #DataDrivenDecisions 4. Cultural Alignment: Stories can bridge cultural gaps, crucial in our globalized world. #CulturalIntelligence 5. Reduces Resistance: By addressing fears and showcasing benefits through relatable tales, you can turn skeptics into advocates. #ChangeManagement 6. Inspires Action: A compelling story can be the spark that ignites motivation and drives proactive participation in change initiatives. #EmployeeEngagement 7. Builds Trust: Authentic stories from leadership humanize the change process, fostering trust and open communication. #AuthenticLeadership Remember, in the grand narrative of your organization, every team member is a protagonist. Their stories matter. By weaving these individual threads into your change management tapestry, you create a shared vision that everyone can believe in. So, fellow change-makers, what's your organization's story? How are you using narrative to navigate the choppy waters of change? Share your experiences below! 👇 #ChangeManagement #Storytelling #LeadershipDevelopment #OrganizationalChange #DigitalTransformation #InnovationMindset #AdaptiveLeadership #ContinuousLearning #EmployeeExperience #FutureOfWork

𝐈𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐒𝐮𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐄𝐱𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐁𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 In the fast-paced world of business, the rush to deliver can often overshadow one of the most crucial stages of any project: ideation. But as many seasoned executives have learned, a well-planned ideation phase is not just a preliminary step; it's the foundation upon which successful execution is built. 𝐈𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐜 𝐄𝐱𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 Before diving into any project, it’s vital to understand that ideation is where strategic alignment, creative thinking, and stakeholder engagement converge. This stage is not just about generating ideas but about creating a shared vision that guides every subsequent action. 1. Strategic Alignment: Ideation ensures that every project begins with a clear understanding of the business objectives and how they align with the company's overall strategy. Without this alignment, projects often lack direction and purpose, leading to suboptimal outcomes. 2. Creative Thinking: Engaging in a thorough ideation process encourages creative thinking and innovation. This is where you challenge the status quo, explore new possibilities, and think outside the box. It's the stage where groundbreaking solutions are born. 3. Stakeholder Engagement: Perhaps most importantly, ideation is where you get buy-in from all key stakeholders, especially at the executive level. Without this engagement, even the best ideas can flounder because they lack the necessary support to be implemented effectively. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐤𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐈𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 Neglecting the ideation phase can lead to numerous issues: - Misaligned Goals: Projects can easily become disconnected from the business's core objectives. - Reduced Innovation: Without a dedicated ideation phase, teams miss out on the opportunity to innovate, often settling for the first solution rather than the best solution. - Lack of Support: Without executive buy-in, projects lack the momentum needed to overcome challenges and drive change. As we navigate the complexities of modern business, let us not forget that every successful journey begins with a single step. For strategic projects, this step is ideation. By fully embracing this phase, we ensure that our projects are not just completed, but are successful, impactful, and aligned with our broader business goals. Remember, the quality of your execution will never exceed the quality of the ideas behind it. #BusinessSuccess #Ideation #ExecutiveLeadership #ManagementTips #SuccessfulExecution

The art of framing is the practice of using a context to enhance the visual impact of an object 🖼️ What’s art got to do with Transformation you may well ask? I recently visited three businesses in very different industries, sectors, and different functional elements of their respective businesses. Each was outlining their thoughts, plans, aspirations for the next phase of their business journey. They each had their vision statement, including their desired outcomes at a macro level, but this staging area was not the problem. Each ultimately came to the same point, same topic, same conversation… “how or where exactly to start to move those desired outcomes forward into running and executing a delivery programme?” The next level down was their blocker, the framing of the programme of works required to get them there. The scoping, the workstreams, the sequencing and scheduling, the resource management and planning. That’s not as strange as it may sound as not every business has an in-house change or transformation function, and even when some of them do they are not always led by individuals with that specialism as their background. Hence the inflection point where they lean outside of their organisation for support, for a point of view (formal or informal). You see, turning that agenda into a programmatic structure, into a change agenda, into an executionable roadmap, takes experience and will be done quicker, and with a greater level of accuracy if you involve people who know how best to do just that. Change experts with your change agenda at heart, with your outcomes as their North Star in terms of the way they design and mobilise the programme on your behalf. #changemanagement #transformationalleadership #changeagenda #programaticapproach #framing #mobilisation #planning Project One
