This was a very interesting and enlightening talk from Spencer Dale. My key takeaway from the session was the elevator pitch on accelerating the energy transition:- 1) The whole world needs to decarbonize. 2) Energy efficiency is key - everyone can contribute. 3) We must decarbonize power systems 4) Application not invention - we know what needs to be done - just do it!

🚨 Breaking news 🚨 🇪🇬 Egypt inks seven more agreements for green hydrogen projects, worth USD $40bn over next ten years. The Egyptian government has added another seven green hydrogen memorandums of understandings (MOUs) to its growing list of potential projects in the Suez Canal Economic Zone, this time opening the door to $40bn worth of investment in the sector. The Egyptian government is also reviewing a proposal for a USD $4bn green iron and steel complex. In addition to ongoing projects under review by AMEA Power, Masdar (Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company), Scatec ASA and others, new market entrants and developers who have signed the latest tranche of MOUs representing USD $12bn for pilot facilities, followed by USD $29bn for the first phase of large-scale production include: Smartenergy, PASH GLOBAL, SK Innovation and United Energy Group. It adds the issue relates to the #ConcentratedSolarPower (#CSP) project. It plans to repair the storage issue, which may involve building a new storage tank.” “ACWA Power holds a 75% stake in the project, which began commercial operation at the end of 2018. I wanted to highlight this story in PV-Magazine about the #Emirates and Abu Dhabi's Emirates Water and Electricity Co. (EWEC) that launched a tender recently for the construction of a massive 1.5 GW solar power plant in the Al Dhafra Region. For those who are not as familiar with this part of the world, or its geography, it is the largest region in the emirate, and #AlDhafra covers nearly two-thirds of Abu Dhabi, with the iconic Empty Quarter desert covering most of that land. The proper name "Ar Rub' al Khali", or Empty Quarter, covers much of the south-central portion of the Arabian Peninsula and is the largest continuous sand desert on #Earth. #Texas, 🤠 like the Middle East (desert regions), has super high irradiation 🌞factors. Investing in ERCOT #solar projects are seen as wise investments that heavily capitalize on this rich resource with high yield returns. #Solar is an Intermittent Resource, and ERCOT - and other experts - know how to seamlessly manage. #Wind and #Solar are not only complimentary IRs to each other (and for hybrid plants); but, are paired well with Battery Storage. They have recently been keeping your lights and stoves on here in #Texas when things got tight. 🦂 SOME KEY FACTS: #Solar Power generated a RECORD BREAKING 21,657MW for the #Texas grid two weeks ago. On August 20th, #ERCOT hit a new DEMAND RECORD with 85,931 MW of #ENERGY on the GRID at 4:45PM. The same day, they broke their maximum power storage record with 3,927 MW of energy coming from batteries and nearly broke our maximum solar record and battery discharge to load ratio record. Algeria’s population is growing– and their grid infrastructure needs to keep up. ⚡ Through a major order from sonelgaz, GE Vernova will supply GE Algerian Turbines (#GEAT) with high voltage equipment, components, and grid automation solutions. The equipment will be supplied to 134 substations, integrated at its Ain Yagout facility in Batna by 2028. The equipment will play a pivotal role in integrating renewable energy sources and ensuring a reliable power supply for #Algeria's growing population and economy.
