I believe sustainable aviation is making significant strides, especially with the advancements in alternatives like eVTOLs, battery-electric flight, and hydrogen power cells. However, sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) stands out to me as the most viable solution for reducing aviation's climate impact. It's encouraging to see industry leaders advocating for increased investment and clearer regulations to support these technologies. For instance, German aviation leaders are currently investigating what 100% SAF framework could look like - what regulations need to be in place, as well as how technology and supply chains will transform. As we navigate this transition, it's clear that there's no single solution. Achieving net-zero emissions in aviation will require a combination of innovative approaches, and I'm optimistic that we're on the right path. It's inspiring to witness the collective effort and determination across the industry to make sustainable aviation a reality. #aviation #sustainability #aviationindustry

Very important agreement between Ecojet and ZeroAvia! It's exciting to see that emission-free aviation is starting to become more realistic. People's willingness to pay for hydrogen in aviation is much higher than it is for road transport. #Batteryelectric aircraft and #charginginfrastructure have also been on display in Farnborough. And without doubt, the use of sustainable aviation fuels (#SAF) will grow heavily in aviation. Those are great steps forward! #futuremobility #sustainability #makingfuture
Fantastic news to close the week at Farnborough Airshow, bringing zero-emission flights one step closer in the UK! Ecojet, the Edinburgh based green airline founded by Dale Vince, has signed an agreement to purchase 22 ZA2000 hydrogen-electric engines, with options for a further 40 engines, deepening the commitment announced last November. The clean propulsion technology using hydrogen is advancing rapidly, the airlines, airports and aircraft manufacturers are getting on board. A clean future of flight is coming. Hydrogen-Powered Aviation: Airbus and the Path to Net Zero by 2035 As the aviation industry pushes to achieve net zero emissions by 2050, hydrogen-powered aircraft are emerging as a key solution. Airbus is leading the charge with significant investments in hydrogen propulsion technology, targeting a commercial hydrogen aircraft by 2035. With multiple concepts, including a blended-wing design and liquid hydrogen fuel cells, Airbus successfully tested hydrogen fuel cells at commercial power levels, showcasing promising progress. However, the path to widespread adoption isn’t without challenges. Glenn Llewellyn VP of Zero Emissions Technology at Airbus, emphasized, “The question is… will there be enough decarbonized hydrogen available in the 2035 timeframe to support the commercialisation of the aircraft?” In parallel, the focus remains on sustainable aviation fuels (SAFs) to bridge the gap until hydrogen becomes viable. According to IATA, an average of $128 billion per year is needed to scale SAF production and related technologies to meet the industry’s net zero goals. Yet, the current supply is just 1.5 million tonnes annually, far short of the 500 million tonnes required by 2050. Marie Owens Thomsen, International Air Transport Association (IATA)’s Head of Sustainability, acknowledged the magnitude of the challenge, stating, “The distance from where we are today is so great, but we can say yes—it’s achievable with the right government and industry support.” The aviation industry is at a crossroads. With SAFs in the short term and hydrogen in the longer term, this transformation demands unprecedented collaboration across governments, fuel companies, and manufacturers to decarbonize flight. #Hydrogen #SustainableAviation #NetZero #Airbus #IATA #CleanEnergy #AviationInnovation #SAFs #Decarbonization #FutureOfFlight
