Did you know? 🖋️ In 1482, Leonardo da Vinci wrote what is believed to be the world’s first resume. At 30, he sought to secure work in Milan, offering his talents to Ludovico Sforza, the city's Regent. Da Vinci boldly highlighted his ability to design war machines, construct bridges, and create stunning works of art—all tailored to meet Milan's needs. His resume wasn’t just about his skills; it was about how those skills could benefit the city. The result? He was hired, leading to some of his most renowned creations, including 'The Last Supper.' As we celebrate Workforce Development Month, let’s remember that a powerful resume isn’t just about listing qualifications—it’s about showing how you can make an impact. #WorkforceDevelopmentMonth #ResumeRoots #LeonardoDaVinci #TheMoreYouKnow

My Monday Morning Motivational Muse THE VALUE OF VULNERABILITY The Lagos International Trade Fair (LITF) is now underway, the culmination of a year’s worth of dedicated planning and effort. We are grateful for the positive feedback from exhibitors and visitors on the organization of the 2024 Fair—proof that our commitment to excellence is paying off. As the Trade Fair began, I was able to see that things were not perfect. Despite my best efforts, some aspects I thought were under control turned out otherwise. Some areas are thriving, while others revealed decisions I could have improved, assumptions I misjudged, red flags I missed, and estimates that were not entirely accurate. As a leader, it is natural to want to project invincibility, superior wisdom and strength to inspire confidence. However, true leadership includes acknowledging vulnerabilities. The power of vulnerability in leadership cannot be overemphasized. I have realized that it is important to embrace my humanity and cut myself and my team some slack… we are all humans. Being human means: - Accepting that mistakes are a part of growth. - Recognizing that my perspective won’t always align perfectly with others’ views. - Understanding that, under pressure, I may sometimes react passionately—and only later, with a clear mind, wish I had responded differently. Leadership is not about being flawless; it is about accountability, authenticity, and transparency. Vulnerability invites others to step up, take initiative, and offer their insights—often, solutions emerge from unexpected places when people feel seen and valued. Embracing our humanity also calls for humility. Mistakes invite us to learn, to listen, and to improve. When necessary, I will apologize, seek understanding, and grow from the lessons learned. In this journey, I hope to inspire others to view vulnerability not as a liability but as a catalyst for growth, creativity, authenticity, and resilient leadership. 🎯 🎯 🎯This week, please remember that IT'S OK TO BE HUMAN! PS: If you are in Lagos and have not visited the Lagos International Trade Fair at Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), NOW IS THE TIME! This year’s fair is more than just an exhibition—it’s a full-fledged marketplace buzzing with vibrant displays, ground-breaking products, and unique cultural experiences from around the world. From the AFRICA HALL to the CHINA HALLS, you will find a wealth of products and business opportunities, plus family-friendly activities, entertainment, and a taste of Lagos’ vibrant culture. DON’T MISS OUT ON THIS EXCITING BLEND OF COMMERCE AND CULTURE RIGHT IN THE HEART OF LAGOS! photo credit: leadership headquarters

Thank you, Athens! 🇬🇷 Grateful for inspiring connections, new insights, and the thrill of new experiences. 🌍 Reflecting on an unforgettable experience at the #GAAinAthens A huge thank you to the organizers for bringing together such an inspiring group of professionals from diverse backgrounds and nationalities, all in one of the most historically significant locations in the world. Athens was the perfect backdrop for building meaningful connections and exploring the future of our industry. I also want to express my deep gratitude to Osvaldo Avalos, my leader and mentor, for his trust and for all the years of shared work that have led us to live experiences like this. Being here with Grifuron S.A. wouldn’t have been possible without the guidance and support he’s provided along the way. Here are three key takeaways from participating in a gathering of this scale: 1. *Global Perspectives*: Meeting industry leaders from around the world highlighted the power of diverse perspectives in solving common challenges. Hearing about logistics solutions from Asia to Europe broadened my understanding of what's possible. 2. *Innovation Through Collaboration*: Many of the most promising ideas came from open, candid conversations. There’s nothing quite like brainstorming face-to-face with experts from all areas of logistics and supply chain management. 3. *Personal Growth*: Stepping out of your comfort zone can lead to great things. I even took the leap—literally!—and went skydiving over the Acropolis with colleagues. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience and a reminder of the value of embracing new challenges. 🙌 To my network: Have you ever done something completely new at a professional event or conference? 💡 I’d love to hear about your own “firsts” and how they impacted you—let’s share our experiences in the comments! #GlobalAffinityAlliance #Grifuron

𝗦𝗼 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗲𝘅𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝗱𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘁 𝗚𝗦𝗢? 𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝗚𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗮𝗿𝘀? If you have ever asked yourself that question, you do have a point. Originally founded as a network to support German scholars abroad to return to Germany, our mission and portfolio has adapted to changes in the academic system and to the evolving needs of researchers: ➡ Today, we still help Germans to return to Germany, but that’s only one part of the story. We 𝗮𝗹𝘀𝗼 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗮 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗻𝘂𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀 who want to stay in Germany and offer 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗳𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 of postdocs of ALL backgrounds. And we do that independently and at eye-level. ❗ However, what we actually do and offer not always shines through in our brand and communication. That is why the GSO team, our new board, and representatives from our advisory board and members sat together to rethink GSO. How can we communicate better what we do? How can we reach people who benefit from what we do? What is our added value for them? Even if it was just kick off to a journey, we want to share a couple of quotes of from our survey with researchers and other important stakeholders, which made us very happy to hear: 🔸 "It's all about us." 🔸 "You were here at a crucial point of my career." 🔸 "You provide a space to develop personally, not just careerwise." Thank you to our executive board members Dr. Jacob Eder, Stephanie Dittmer, Kerstin Dübner-Gee, Jeffrey M. Peck, Florian Bruhns from our advisory board and association member Marcel S. Pawlowski for putting their heads together with us! ❓ What do you think? What has your association with GSO been? Stay tuned as we progress on this journey!
