Today, as a nation, we celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day. This day recognizes and honours the rich cultures, histories, and significant contributions of Canada's First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Indigenous peoples. For many, it is also a day to reflect on our country's troubling past and acknowledge the ongoing impacts of colonialism that continue to cause harm. We must strive to move beyond performative gestures and work towards embedding genuine inclusiveness in our communities, cultures, and hearts. This means actively listening to Indigenous voices, understanding their histories and current challenges, and committing to actions that support reconciliation and justice.
