Today, December 10, is International Human Rights Day. It celebrates the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948 - a global pledge delineating the rights each human should be afforded. This year's theme is Our Rights, Our Future, Right Now. It is an opportunity to stand against hate and call out misinformation and disinformation. By embracing and trusting the full power of human rights as the path to the world we want, we can become more peaceful, equal and sustainable. This year’s theme is a call to acknowledge the importance and relevance of human rights in our everyday lives. We have an opportunity to change perceptions by speaking up against hate speech, correcting misinformation and countering disinformation. This is the time to mobilize action to reinvigorate a global movement for human rights. This day also marks the last day of the 𝟏𝟔 𝐃𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐦 𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐭 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫-𝐁𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐕𝐢𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐂𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐢𝐠𝐧. What is Active Hope? It is a practice - something that we can do - that supports us to: (a) make a difference in this world and (b) live with more of a sense of meaning to life. Whatever it is that concerns us: environmental issues; social issues; racism; world poverty; climate change; or any other issue that we would like to make a difference in, Active Hope is a practice that helps us find our purpose, and play our part. We do not have to solve all of the world's problems on our own, but, together, we can change the world for the better.
