Human rights serve as a powerful catalyst for individuals and communities to build a brighter future. By fully supporting and harnessing the potential of human rights, we pave the way toward a more peaceful, equitable and sustainable world 🌏. Trusting in this framework allows us to collectively strive for the society we envision 🤝. Refresh your memory on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the seminal document that inspired the creation and implementation of over 70 human rights treaties worldwide, binding international agreements, regional instruments and national constitutions, solidifying its status as a cornerstone of human rights law and advocacy. *We endorse the 2024 Human Rights Theme: Our Rights, Our Future, Right Now.* #ANP #AlNaqbiPartners #Law #Lawyers #InternationalHumanRightsDay #JusticeForAll

every year on 10th Dec, is international human rights day 📜 this years United Nations (UN) theme is ‘our rights, our future, right now’ human rights are a set of civil, and political freedoms that are bestowed onto a human being. they are ‘an important part of how people interact with others at all levels in society - in the family, the community, schools, the workplace, in politics, and in international relations’ (Australian Human Rights Commission, 2024) • ‘by defending human rights, we can prevent harm before it happens’ • ‘by protecting human rights, we protect our future’ • ‘by advancing human rights, we create a fairer world’ (United Nations Human Rights Commission, 2024) collectively, we must recognise and respect our own human rights, as well as the human rights of others 🤲🏼🌏🇺🇳

⬇️ "As employers, we have a unique opportunity to lead by example by fostering inclusive work environments, ensuring safe labour practices and prioritising sustainability. Lead by example by speaking up against hate speech, correcting misinformation and countering disinformation, ensuring a commitment to human rights. From homes and workplaces to cultural and recreational facilities, construction is not just about building structures, but also futures. On the other side of construction, we are honoured to design and responsibly execute projects that help ensure access to safe housing, sustainable infrastructure and spaces that bring people together, directly contributing to the quality of life and fundamental rights of individuals and communities. Although it first aired about two weeks ago in conjunction with Earth Day, the US Public Broadcasting System (PBS) "American Experience" show on Love Canal, New York is not to be missed by anyone who works in a variety of environmental fields. It is now available for streaming ( https://lnkd.in/gRszqjeB). Briefing, Love Canal is located near Buffalo, New York and was a site where chemical waste in drums was disposed in an abandoned canal beginning in the 1940s. The site was eventually sold for $1.00 to the Niagara Falls School board and with time a school, individual homes, and rental housing were built over the site. US President Jimmy Carter declared it a federal health emergency, the first time that emergency management funds were used in the US for a human-cause emergency. More than 800 families were relocated as part of the cleanup. The episode includes interviews with residents, particularly mothers, who galvanized attention and support because of health impacts to their children; as well as former officials of the New York State Health Department and the US Environmental Protection Agency. The show ends with President Carter signing the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) or "Superfund" since it was clear that Love Canal type sites existed in many locations in the United States. You might want to consider the show for "training", especially for younger employees. Parts of it are painful to watch simply because what today are fundamental processes of fate and transport of contaminants were slow to be used, and few local, state, and federal officials had any skills in communicating about health risks and impacts (something that is still a challenge today).
