Consortium Signs MoU for the Development of a Green Methanol Facility in Egypt AD Ports Group a global trade, logistics and industry, Transmar a container shipping line and terminal operator in the #menaregion and Orascom Construction PLC a leading global engineering, construction contractor with a track record in the construction and development of infrastructure industrial projects have signed an MoU for the development of a #greenmethanol storage and export facility. The facility will aim to supply #lowcarbon #fuel for #maritimetransport to establish clean alternative energy storage solutions globally Green methanol is a synthetic fuel produced renewably and without polluting emissions, and can be produced from #greenhydrogen Green #methanol has several benefits compared to #fossilfuels. It is clean-burning and has less and non-toxic emissions. As a liquid, it is easier, safer, and cheaper to store, transport, and handle, as existing infrastructure can be used. It is also a highly efficient and versatile fuel as it is produced from renewable feedstocks including renewable hydrogen and biomethane. Aside from the maritime industry, green methanol can help decarbonise other hard-to-abate industries, including chemical and plastics. The addition of a facility in this area will provide bunkering solutions for those mainliners who have ordered green methanol powered vessels and is aligned with #ADPorts Group’s overall Decarbonisation Technology strategy and expansion into clean energy liquid bulk storage. Industry sources anticipate that more than 100 methanol-fueled ships will be in service from 2026, representing around a million tons of additional methanol demand, and according to Drewry Shipping Consultants Ltd and Clarksons Research, the methanol-fueled #vessel fleet will grow from 2% to 14% of the global fleet based on orders already placed. Captain Ammar Al Shaiba CEO – Maritime & Shipping Cluster, AD Ports Group said: "This MoU with Orascom Construction PLC who have vast international experience in bulk liquid terminals for #Methanol storage, Transmar, who have decades of expertise in this region and within terminal operations, AD Ports Group and its subsidiaries are taking a significant step towards the sustainable future of energy. This initiative not only aligns with the #UAE's #decarbonisation goals but also accelerates the #energytransition in #shipping, positioning us at the forefront of the #renewablehydrogen revolution and enabling us to contribute to global environmental stewardship and economic diversification." The International Maritime Organization’s #GHG strategy aimed at decarbonizing shipping by 2050, #greenhydrogen fuels are set to be the backbone of this shift for the #maritimeindustry according International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA). Global demand for #greenmethanol is expected to increase to 4 Mtons /year in the next 5 years Osama Bishai Ibrahim Samy Gregory Dolan Methanol Institute Osama Fawzy Georgy

Fugro completes primary phase in first vessel conversion to green methanol fuel The Fugro Pioneer is ready to be equipped with methanol engines after successfully converting the main components on board. Using green methanol as a fuel reduces carbon emissions by more than 90% compared to conventional diesel, allowing clients to run their projects in a more sustainable manner. This vessel conversion is part of Fugro’s journey to reach Net-Zero operations by 2035. There is an increased focus on sustainability in tenders for the offshore market, and as such for Fugro's clients. By embracing green methanol as a fuel, our clients are offered the significant opportunity to align their projects with environmental responsibility while maintaining operational efficiency. https://bit.ly/3PPyGnU #methanol #renewable #marine #alternativefuel #efuel #cleanfuel #sustainable

CROATIA ADVANCES PLANS FOR 498 MW PUMPED STORAGE HYDRO PLANT Croatia is moving forward with plans for a 498 MW pumped storage hydro plant, as announced by the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development. The proposed Blaca project, spearheaded by state-owned utility Hrvatska Elektroprivreda (HEP), is currently undergoing environmental assessments. Situated in Sinjsko polje, Dalmatia, this endeavour represents a substantial investment in Croatia's renewable energy infrastructure. Beyond electricity generation, the Blaca project aims to enhance flood protection, augment irrigation capabilities, and streamline operations at the nearby Orlovac hydropower plant. Envisioned with an upper Blaca reservoir spanning 58.1 hectares and a lower Gala reservoir covering 74 hectares, the facility is expected to yield 986 GWh annually while consuming 1.29 TWh in pumping mode. Construction of the three-generator plant will entail significant excavation efforts. Pumped storage initiatives are gaining momentum across Southeast Europe, with neighbouring countries already implementing similar facilities. Croatia's thorough environmental assessment signifies a pivotal step forward as the Blaca project progresses towards potential approval and eventual construction. ⚡ Follow MPS (Modern Power Systems) for all the latest news daily from the global power generation industry ⚡ #MPS #power #energy #powergeneration #hydropower #pumpedstorage

💡Quoting CEO of Redeia, Roberto García Merino: “#Storage will be one of the key elements in the #energy_transition, providing flexibility and manageability to the electricity system to integrate large amounts of #renewable energies, thus contributing to electrification and access to renewable energy, which is especially important for an electricity system like the Canary Islands, which is isolated and therefore more vulnerable.” 🌱Salto de Chira #pumped_storage hydroelectric power plant on Gran Canaria also includes a seawater #desalination plant to maintain water levels in the reservoirs and provide #irrigation support to local farming communities. An apt example of the role of #Hydropower in #ClimateChangeAdaptation and #CleanEnergyTransition: ✓ Increased #storage volume in reservoirs, and effective #water_management ensure a climate-#resilient water supply, environmental needs, with stakeholders’ consideration. ✓ Pumped storage schemes may provide additional benefits optimizing efficiency of overall renewables’ installed capacity and water 💦 resources management ✓ #Hydropower with water storage is the guardian of the grid and the backbone for #CleanEnergyTransition. #WithHydropower
