The Levan NSU Broward Center of Innovation and Maverc Technologies Cyber Workforce Development Program is now registering individuals that are interested in a career in cybersecurity and that demonstrate a passion for learning new skills, can participate 4 days a week and for 4 hours per day. Participants will utilize cloud hosted tools from Elastic, I just saw the artificial intelligence tools that have been configured that accelerate threat hunting and response when using Elastic. The program was recently advertised to various universities and the applicants are pouring in. We are excited about the veterans that have all ready registered and those that are in the process of registering for the program. One of the most popular questions is, can participants attend virtually? The answer is absolutely yes! The virtual option allows for reaching the most number of veterans and other interested parties. The Levan NSU Broward Center of Innovation is an awesome facility located on the campus of Nova Southeastern University in Davie Florida. The program has two tracks, Governance Risk and Compliance and security operations center and incident response. Cybersecurity subject matter expert lectures from industry and government are filling up and the team is excited about the esteemed line up of presenter that will cover topics such as: Artificial Intelligence Zero Trust Facilities cybersecurity assessments Industrial control cybersecurity The Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification The NIST RMF Framework Security clearances Certifications often required by the DoD for cyber jobs The impact of artificial intelligence on the search for a job in cybersecurity The program is based on the international award winning cybersecurity apprenticeship that I helped create and manage along with team members that are now intelligence community CIO's, CISOs, GRC Compliance practitioners in government and in industry for CMMC, NIST RMF and ISO. Here at the Whole Cyber Human Initiative Inc. 501(c)(3) we scan the internet and creates robust curriculums utilizing reputable free training resources that would otherwise cost between roughly $8,525 and $26,640 for online education or $9,000 to $20,000 for an online cyber cert bootcamp.* Created by the Whole Cyber team and vetted by the Advisory Board, each curriculum is evaluated by a combined Tech Industry experience of over 300 years for relevancy while being logical in the delivery. Our current 2023 Core Curriculum is broken down into two parts. Though the course is self-paced, we have developed an 11 week COHORT style for DoD Skillbridge applicants that entail individual/group mentorship, recaps of what they are learning, advise from peers when they get stuck, one-on-one sessions with Advisory Board members, a career transition meet-up to go over their previous career and how it fi ts in cyber, and LinkedIn Networking assistance. Part 1 (Non-technical transition) Estimated 4-5 day completion: A candidate is faced with reading, researching, and digesting the 52 roles presented by the National Initiative for Cybersecurity Careers and Study. At the conclusion of part 1, each candidate is to identify the 3-5 roles presented that they closely align with or wish to pursue. During this portion, each candidate conducts a Myer Briggs personalities assessment and a Cyber Aptitude assessment presented by US CyberKnights. Part 2 (Technical and Non-technical transition) 380 hours Estimated at 12 weeks to complete. ***Subject to change due to availability of source. Calling all mentors, we need you. Not even technology bound mentorship, we also need folks that can help with mock interviews, community organization, leadership, project management, teaching, communication and more. It does not matter your career because we are all heading to a tech centric workforce. Maybe the term has not been coined yet, but there will be fewer and fewer jobs that do not require exposure to technology. Mentors = any person with experience to share. Mentors != any person with over 20 years experience, but nothing to share. For non nerds != is like saying "Does not equal". We have many people pivoting or entering the vast fields of technology and need a greater scope of skills and personalities within and without those fields to help shape the future.

Myth 2: To begin a job in cybersecurity, you must first obtain a Cert IV. Cert IV in Cybersecurity is a somewhat useful certificate, but it is not the only method to enter this dynamic field. Here's why. Different Certification Options: The cybersecurity environment includes an abundance of certification alternatives, each suited to a distinct element or work area of the profession. Think of this like a trade certification... builders do their building certs, electricians do theirs, and so on. Relevant micro-credentials and industry certifications that are recognised by the cybersecurity industry should be what you are looking for. Tailored Career Paths: Cybersecurity is not a one-size-fits-all industry. Depending on your interests and job ambitions, you may seek several qualifications. For example, if you are interested in firewalls and architecture, the Fortinet NSE 4 would be relevant. If you want to work in leadership, the CISM certification may be a good option. Customising your qualifications to your career path will help you become more competitive in your targeted field. Practical Experience and Hands-on Learning: In addition to qualifications, acquiring actual, hands-on experience is essential. Internships, cybersecurity challenges (such as Capture the Flag), Boot Camps, Lab hours and contributions to open-source projects can all provide important experience. These real-world experiences frequently speak louder than certificates alone. Continuous Learning: Cybersecurity is a constantly evolving field. Continuous learning and keeping up with the latest trends, threats, and technology are critical. Online platforms, seminars, and workshops provide countless options for continuous learning and skill development. Being proactive in your learning path might differentiate you from the competition. Leverage Transferable Skills: Veterans provide a wide range of transferable talents to cybersecurity, including problem-solving, leadership, and risk management. These talents are highly recognised in the industry and can help supplement your technical knowledge. These talents, combined with your certificates, can help you stand out as a candidate. Veterans, do not be misled into believing that a Cert IV in Cybersecurity is the sole route to entering this industry. My Journey from Warehousing to Cybersecurity: A Career Change That Transformed My Life Making the leap from warehousing and logistics to cybersecurity has been one of the most rewarding yet challenging experiences of my life. After spending years managing inventory and operations, I realized my passion lay in a completely different field—protecting data and defending networks. The transition wasn’t easy. I had to go back to school, learning the ins and outs of IT security. From mastering firewalls and VPNs to understanding the complexities of vulnerability management, it was like diving headfirst into a whole new world. But the challenges fueled my determination. Now, as a CompTIA-certified IT Security Specialist with hands-on experience in vulnerability management and incident response, I can honestly say that every hurdle was worth it. Through internships, competitions like the National Cyber League, and countless hours of studying, I’ve learned that protecting digital assets is not just a job—it’s a calling. One thing I’ve realized is how crucial it is to have a mentor to help guide you through this kind of journey. Mentorship not only provides real-world insights and practical advice, but it also helps you stay focused on your goals, no matter how tough the transition.
