We draw so much on the computer, building incredibly detailed and beautiful three-dimensional models that our clients can fly through alongside amazing photorealistic renderings, but nothing seems to be more visceral than a physical model. They are somehow much more tangible than anything a computer can generate. You can turn them around in your hand. You can rip pieces off and redesign on the fly. They are incredibly versatile. These kind of corner beads are used to reinforce and stabilize corners, so the drywall boards do not move. Another reason is to hide corner seams, similar to how the tape is used to hide regular seams on installed drywall boards.

This material sample board reflects the early design investigations for our upcoming residential project in the East Sussex countryside. Drawing directly from the natural elements present on site, the palette is influenced by local materials and textures. The photograph included highlights part of the site, where a stagnant lake is planned for restoration and expansion, creating a better and more visually appealing relationship between the building and the landscape. Oak trees are prevalent in the area, and their branches, leaves, and fallen bark have informed our approach to material selection. A key focus of this project is the exploration of shou sugi ban cladding, a technique of charring wood to increase durability and texture. Brick Inlay was used to build Oak Berwick's textured brick façade, wrapping the materials down the sides of the building to create a holistic design. The residential side of the development features Mottoncino Grande Bianco brick tiles. “Brick Inlay gives you ease of construction, which makes it a simpler choice to have really nice boundary walls that can sometimes be an afterthought. So we can say we’ll have brick inlaid into a concrete panel and then present a side elevation in a really cost-effective and high quality design. Victoria & Vine’s beautifully diverse material palette is predominantly brick, paired with glazing and precast concrete: “The choice of materials was based around the opportunity of a language, and it was mainly brick because it reflected the context and the history, and a lot of that was extracted out of the relevance to its precinct and different attitudes, as people identify with different things.
