Break the Cycle Sales Leadership Journey Day 3 of 25 – How are you spending your time? As sales leaders, your time with your team is invaluable. Reflecting on my own journey and conversations with fellow leaders, I've noticed three main approaches to spending time with sellers: 1. You're there because you're "supposed" to be there. No real value added. 2. You're there for a specific purpose - advancing a deal, showing executive presence, or closing a deal. Important, but limiting, and no one gets better. But let's talk about the game-changer - approach number 3: 3. You're there to help your sellers get better. The ultimate approach, hands down. When your time with them ends, they're better off than when you started. Now, imagine combining the "get better" principle with advancing or closing deals. When your work helps your sellers become more capable, over time, their performance improves. Game-changer! With the intentional "get them better" approach, you're not just building effective sellers, you're building a winning team. Next time you hit the field, think about that. QUICK REMINDER: Your reps are people too! As a sales leader, it's easy to see them as numbers on a screen, especially when paired with quote and other performance metrics you track. But they're people with families, challenges, and a whole life outside your sales floor. Take time to understand and empathize with your SDRs to build trust and loyalty among them and provide the #leadership or managerial support they need. We use mantras like "people buy from people" to emphasize the importance of relationships in selling, but we forget that the same applies to rep/manager relationships. When your SDRs feel genuinely cared for as people, they’re more likely to work hard and go the extra mile for the team. Be sure to retain a human touch in your leadership style.
