Is this the final straw? 36% of VCSE mental health organisations from our membership reported, in our survey, that they have enough savings to cover just 0 to 3 months of expenses. With financial pressures mounting, many of these vital services are struggling to survive. Demand for mental health care is rising and long-term funding and support are critical to ensure these charities can continue their work. We’re urging the government to make mental health charities exempt from recent Budget changes to safeguard their future. The time to act is now. R U OK? is a national suicide prevention charity and registered public health promotion that encourages people to stay connected and have conversations that can help others through difficult times. Our work focuses on building the motivation, confidence, and skills of the help-giver – the person who can have a meaningful conversation with someone who is struggling with life. R U OK? contributes to suicide prevention efforts by encouraging people to invest more time in their personal relationships and building the capacity of informal support networks – friends, family and colleagues - to be alert to those around them, have a conversation if they identify signs of distress or difficulty and connect someone to appropriate support, long before they're in crisis.

31% of employees have had suicidal thoughts in the workplace. That's quite an alarming statistic. But then every statistic to do with suicide is alarming for a means of death that is largely preventable. Today we're sharing a suicide prevention training workshop that can be run independently by employers for their teams. It's free and it's open-source. So we're more than happy for people to use it in its entirety or take parts of it to support their own training. It's also version 1.0 - which means we'll take on feedback, adapt it and evolve it. Latest YouGov Poll It's interesting to note that despite the increasing focus on mental health in mainstream discourse, the latest YouGov poll on the most popular charities and organisations at the end of 2023 shows that mental health organisations are not yet making it into the top ten list of public favourites. This suggests that there may still be a gap between the awareness and understanding of mental health issues and the level of public support for related charities and organisations. Raising more awareness and support for mental health causes could help bridge this gap and further prioritise mental health in the public eye. #chasingthestigma
