Italian company IronLevee Consulting, LLC has successfully tested its magnetic levitation (maglev) technology on an existing train track – a breakthrough that could make maglev a more viable option for Europe's rail networks. Why IronLev's Test Matters: Their system doesn't require costly track modifications, making maglev integration far more affordable. Maglev offers faster, cleaner, and quieter train travel. Maglev's Slow Journey: Despite decades of development, only a handful of maglev lines exist. High costs and incompatible infrastructure have been key barriers. IronLev's innovation may address these challenges, finally bringing the benefits of maglev technology to a wider audience. #magnets are Magic!! Shanghai Maglev is currently the fastest commercial train in the world. It has an operational speed of 270 miles per hour and completes the 18-mile journey from Shanghai to the Pudong International Airport in just 7 minutes and 30 seconds. But it is nowhere near the fastest tested train in the world. That honor belongs to a Japanese Maglev train that can reach 374 miles per hour. What makes these trains faster than their traditional counterparts? It’s the #power of #magnets. By utilizing magnets and special rail systems, Maglev trains can take friction out of the equation and test the speed limits of railway travel. There are currently two popular Maglev #technologies. In EMS or electromagnetic suspension trains, the cars are equipped with electromagnets that push the car away from the ferromagnetic track. EDS or #electrodynamic suspension trains are much more complicated. Superconductive magnets are attached to the train and are constantly cooled with the help of liquid helium so they maintain their power. The guideway consists of two sets of magnets. One layer to suspend the second to guide. Both #technologies are capable of producing trains much faster than conventional ones and likely will be used more in the future. Altaport and engineering and design multinational, WSP have released a concept of operations (conops) analysing the business requirements of a vertiport automation system (VAS). Identifying conops for automated vertiport operations has been the subject of a number of studies over the past few years. Altaport claims their white paper is different because it discusses a VAS’s role in “integrating critical operational and business requirements in a way that will maximize the value of a vertiport network”. The document adds context to both operational management of a vertiport, as well as alignment with key business objectives that will drive economic value and facilitate growth across AAM as a whole. Altaport and WSP collaborated with BluSKy Services Group, GeoRq LLC, Greater Orlando Aviation Authority: Orlando International (MCO) and Executive (ORL) Airports, Harper4D Solutions, LLC and ResilienX to produce the 72-page white paper.
