Yesterday, we conducted our first planning meeting for this year's International Youth Day (IYD) commemoration, with a number of stakeholders—including youth leaders —in attendance. We extend an invitation to interested parties to collaborate with us in planning this year's International Youth Day commemoration in Malawi. The United Nations (UN) designated 12 August as International Youth Day, a day for governments and other stakeholders to celebrate young people and their contributions to development, as well as to draw attention to various issues that affect youth around the world. Commemorations are always guided by the global theme set by the UN and are usually characterized by the coming together of a wide range of stakeholders, including the government, young people, youth groups, and development partners, for various activities. This year's International Youth Day global theme is "𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬: 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐃𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐏𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭." This theme is intended to celebrate the power of youth and digital innovation in harnessing technology to create sustainable solutions for world's most pressing challenges. It highlights the key connection between digitalization and accelerating the progress of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), emphasizing the crucial contributions of young people in this transformative process. As we have started our national level preparations, the team is expected to contextualize the global theme to fit Malawi's local context. https://lnkd.in/dbrjB49s

We celebrated an incredible International Youth Day on August 12! 👦🏼🧒🏽👧🏿🌍 Our panelists shared valuable insights on the role of youth in peace and security. Here’s a thought-provoking quote from Saji Prelis when we posed the question: How urgent and necessary is it to include youth in peace and security for sustainable development? 🕊️🌱 "Current solutions are failing, and the existing systems do not meet people's present needs and are unfit for the future. As a result, we require an all-of-society approach. With the median age in Africa being just 19, we need a human-centered approach that prioritizes youth. It’s also essential to recognize that young people are already on the frontlines, engaging in promising and constructive initiatives that not only serve their own interests but also address the needs of society as a whole." ❌🧒🌟 Want to stay updated on our upcoming events? I believe that youth to youth cooperation can be a gamechanger. Backed by United Nations Youth initiatives like : 1. WPAY - World Programme of Action for Youth under the authority of United Nations General Assembly and United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs provides a policy framework and practical guidelines for national action and international support to improve the situation of young people around the world. 2. #Youth2030 - The United Nations Youth Strategy aims to empower young people to realize their full potential and actively contribute to sustainable development, human rights, peace and security. 3. Generation Unlimited - launched by UNICEF , their mission is to unleash the full potential of the world's 1.8 billion young people. By providing them with the right skills and opportunities, they can be at the forefront of creating a better, more equitable world. Campaigns like "Not Too Young to Run" led by Yiaga Africa and adopted by the UN, African Union and ECOWAS Commission play a crucial role in promoting youth engagement in politics, empowering young leaders, and ensuring that political systems are inclusive and representative of all age groups.

Less than 60 days until the 8th Arab-European Youth Forum, and we're still waiting for a clear and fair process to select Arab youth participants! As the date for the 8th Arab-European Youth Forum approaches, we are increasingly concerned about the lack of a clear and transparent selection process for Arab youth participants; the absence of an official communication or mechanism raises concerns that the selection may once again rely solely on nominations, potentially excluding many qualified and eager youth from the region. With the forum now less than 60 days away, the Mediterranean Youth Foundation for Development has yet to receive a response or see any announcement regarding the establishment of an open application system. We reiterate our call for a shared application system reviewed by an independent selection committee, and we’re ready to assist in promoting the forum and the application process through our networks and social media channels Your voice matters! Share this post, tag the organizers, and head to the link in our bio to read the full statement. https://lnkd.in/dCZWz5ii Council of Europe League of Arab States - General Secretariat Youth Partnership #Youth #peace #Youth4Mediterranean #MYF

Did you know? The Dakar Youth Empowerment Strategy was launched at the 2001 World Youth Forum to ensure the full participation of youth in society. Drafted primarily by the Forum’s youth delegates, the Strategy identifies key areas for greater investment and attention. Among these, providing decent employment opportunities for youth is recognized as an urgent need. The Strategy outlines three main interventions: • Greater investment in skills training for youth through improved collaboration between employers and training institutions. • Increased promotion of youth entrepreneurship by offering better market information, business skills training, access to capital, and mentorships. • Adequate social and labor protections for youth workers by improving their working conditions, promoting labor rights, and guaranteeing a minimum income. Since its creation, the Strategy has informed national youth policies, such as the 2019 Kenya Youth Development Policy, and other frameworks, including the 2006 Arab Declaration on Youth Empowerment. We celebrated the 24th International Youth Day yesterday to reflect on young people's challenges and recognise their significant impact worldwide. In continuation of that deserved recognition, this post is dedicated to honouring the resilience, passion, and grit of our youth ambassadors and volunteers towards peacebuilding and development across varied Nigeria communities and in the diaspora, and also to the innumerable youth peacebuilders and changemakers who contribute to making our world a better place. Young people globally work, often unnoticed, in diverse areas such as climate change, peacebuilding, human rights, education, equality and inclusion, and security, among others, leveraging technology and digital innovations more than ever. Nevertheless, the challenges facing the youth are numerous, which is why this season is important – to reflect on what is going on in the youth world and give necessary support to advance their voice. While we look inward to encourage ourselves as a youth-led organisation to keep up our excellent work, we also extend similar encouragement to every youth and youth-led organisation to never give up on transforming our world positively. Our world needs all hands on deck; we need you to survive, young people. Keep leveraging digital innovation for sustainable peace and development. You matter, youth. #youthcelebration #digitalinnovation #progress #sdgs

(- : noFoe : -) Reflections on Wed, 20nov24 🌄😀🌅 Good Morning 🙏🏽😀🙏🏽 I prefer peace. But if trouble must come, let it come in my time, so that my children can live in peace. ~ Thomas Paine In my view, the humanity of our world can be measured against the fate of Africa. ~ Horst Koehler RELEVANT OBSERVANCE BY THE WORLD TODAY (theme / information / purpose "tip"): 01. UN - World Children's Day (The Day was first established in 1954 as Universal Children's Day and is celebrated yearly to promote international togetherness and awareness among children worldwide and improve children's welfare. November 20th is an important date as it was in 1959 when the UN General Assembly [UNGA] adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child. It is also the date in 1989 when the UNGA adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Since 1990, World Children's Day has also marked the anniversary of the UN General Assembly’s adoption of the Declaration and the Convention on Children’s Rights. The day promotes and celebrates children's rights, translating into dialogues and actions to build a better world for our children. #UniversalChildrensDay #WorldChildrensDay). 02. UN - Africa Industrialization Day (Industrial development is critical for sustained and inclusive economic growth in African countries. Industry can enhance productivity, increase the workforce’s capabilities, and generate employment by introducing new equipment and techniques. Industrialisation, with strong linkages to domestic economies, will help African countries achieve high growth rates, diversify their economies and reduce their exposure to external shocks. This will substantially contribute to poverty eradication through employment and wealth creation. The need to envision a long-term 50-year development trajectory for Africa is essential. Due to ongoing structural transformations, Africa should revise its development agenda to ensure inclusive growth, sustainable development, political unity, and respect for democracy and human rights. The day raises awareness about the importance of Africa’s industrialisation and the challenges faced by the continent. #AfricaIndustrializationDay #AccelerateafricasIndustrialization). Make it a Wonderful Day 👍🏽😀👍🏽 ------- Are you a (- : noFoe : -) ? n = nation / national / native o = opting F = Friendship o = over e = enmity -------
