Philadelphia Chapter of ASHRAE Meeting Announcement! Design – Build and the Standard of Care Past Presidents' Night, Awards, and Presentation May 23, 2024 Xfinity Live! - 1100 Social Private Dining Space 6:30 - 8:30 PM **2-hr Open Bar Included / Parking Fees Extra** register - https://lnkd.in/eKtzbw_v As design-build achieves a broader footprint both geographically and by project type, not only are more projects going that way, but there are more ways for that way to go. In this mix is the shifting sands upon which the “custom and practice” of the industry is based – the Standard of Care. The profession, in fact all professions, that operate under a Standard of Care recognize that what was standard at one time can be archaic and outmoded in another. This program will look at one example of a project within the context of a changing standard and some of the issues that can create.

My colleague, Scot Morris, shared valuable insights on the inefficiencies of using round tables in cafeteria/multipurpose rooms. Schools often stick to traditional setups without considering the drawbacks. Here's a summary of the key points for consideration: - Round tables are space-inefficient, with only the edges being utilized, wasting valuable square footage. - While suitable for dining, round tables lack adaptability for other functions, leaving 85% of the day's time unaddressed. - They contribute to noise levels, limiting interactions to neighboring individuals and creating a chaotic environment. It's essential to rethink the layout of these versatile spaces to optimize their use within school buildings. Have you experienced similar challenges in your educational facilities? Let's continue the conversation on efficient room utilization. #cafeteriaspace#schooldesign#spaceplanning

When it comes to wayfinding, the most important (and most overlooked) thing to keep in mind is that markers need to be distinct AND constant. Those living with dementia can struggle with the slightest of changes. Chairs in dining rooms, for example, should remain in dining rooms. If they’re moved to the living area for extra seating, they can cause distress for the residents. It seems like a minor point, but consistency is the most vital element in everything that we do #luxurydesign #interiordesign #catalystinteriors #dementiafriendly

🍽️ Creating an inclusive dining experience means ensuring everyone has a seat at the table - quite literally! 🌟 At AbleVu, we believe that making your restaurant accessible should be a top priority. Here’s a simple yet significant step: Rearrange your seating plan to provide spaces for patrons in wheelchairs. Ensure your tables have a clear height of at least 27 inches from the floor to the underside, making them wheelchair-friendly. 🦽 It might mean investing in new furniture, but you don’t have to do it all at once. Gradual changes can help manage costs while you make a big difference. Ready to revamp for accessibility? Paco Underhill describes a few techniques to ‘bend time’, and change the customers’ perceptions of a particular service encounter. The interesting thing is that the way you perceive time through your ‘internal clock’ may differ from real time. When people wait for a minute and a half, their sense of how much time has elapsed is fairly accurate. If waiting time is a bit longer than that, time distorts and they feel that the actual waiting time is much longer. Where restaurants get it wrong is at the end of the service. When the gesit asks for the bill. By the time this is requested the guest has decided to leave and waiting for the bill can trigger an unhappiness about the entire experience. In fact studies have proven that the moment of leaving in restaurants is 7 x more important than the moment of arrival. If dimensions allow, kitchen islands can truly transform the look and feel of any space. Additionally, they can be used to subtly divide open plan living and dining areas or create a ‘social hub’ for the family.
