My colleague, Scot Morris, shared valuable insights on the inefficiencies of using round tables in cafeteria/multipurpose rooms. Schools often stick to traditional setups without considering the drawbacks. Here's a summary of the key points for consideration: - Round tables are space-inefficient, with only the edges being utilized, wasting valuable square footage. - While suitable for dining, round tables lack adaptability for other functions, leaving 85% of the day's time unaddressed. - They contribute to noise levels, limiting interactions to neighboring individuals and creating a chaotic environment. It's essential to rethink the layout of these versatile spaces to optimize their use within school buildings. Have you experienced similar challenges in your educational facilities? Let's continue the conversation on efficient room utilization. #cafeteriaspace#schooldesign#spaceplanning

Philadelphia Chapter of ASHRAE Meeting Announcement! Design – Build and the Standard of Care Past Presidents' Night, Awards, and Presentation May 23, 2024 Xfinity Live! - 1100 Social Private Dining Space 6:30 - 8:30 PM **2-hr Open Bar Included / Parking Fees Extra** register - https://lnkd.in/eKtzbw_v As design-build achieves a broader footprint both geographically and by project type, not only are more projects going that way, but there are more ways for that way to go. In this mix is the shifting sands upon which the “custom and practice” of the industry is based – the Standard of Care. The profession, in fact all professions, that operate under a Standard of Care recognize that what was standard at one time can be archaic and outmoded in another. This program will look at one example of a project within the context of a changing standard and some of the issues that can create.

Do I need planning permission for a dining canopy? it's a good question. And like a lot of questions, there's not exactly a straightforward answer. It all depends on the size - and location - and design of your canopy whether you'll need to apply for planning permission or not. And there's building regulations to consider as well. We've explained everything you need to know in this blog. But if you've got any questions, please DM me and I'd be very happy to help. #secondaryeducation https://lnkd.in/eBaSXiAW

What do you do when you want to expand to a new market but lack the capital to build out a new location? I love the idea of a ghost kitchen. Low start-up costs, low overhead, and minimal staffing. This way, you can test the unknown, with less risk. This kitchen from CloudKitchens in Queens, NYC, is a great look at typical space before adding the equipment. If dimensions allow, kitchen islands can truly transform the look and feel of any space. Additionally, they can be used to subtly divide open plan living and dining areas or create a ‘social hub’ for the family. If you are planning to incorporate a kitchen island into your project, there are a few key considerations to keep in mind. This is why we've created the ultimate Guide to Kitchen Islands. This guide will delve into each key consideration in detail, providing you with all the necessary information to determine if an island is suitable for your space. How do you weather-proof outdoor dining in the Middle East, where warm season only seems to be getting longer?! It’s November and it feels warmer than previous Novembers in the Middle East. For real estate developers and their tenants, that means that outdoor dining is less comfortable than it was in previous years. While there may be creative solutions like that in the photo below - a reasonably aesthetically pleasing “igloo” which combines air conditioned comfort and still retains the “outdoor” experience, for those of us real estate developers working on new projects or retrofitting existing developments with outdoor / open air sections, we need to take into account that seasonality is moving against us, with more warm months. I like what Gate Avenue DIFC had designed for their restaurants (before their current redevelopment) - an indoor and outdoor section for all of the restaurants along their air conditioned spine. So diners could eat indoors year round with the option of outdoor seating during the cooler months. There are notionally other solutions like shading and cooling solutions and retractable doors / sections. Have you seen any creative solution that extends / enhances the ability to have outdoor seating during warm season?

🍽️ Creating an inclusive dining experience means ensuring everyone has a seat at the table - quite literally! 🌟 At AbleVu, we believe that making your restaurant accessible should be a top priority. Here’s a simple yet significant step: Rearrange your seating plan to provide spaces for patrons in wheelchairs. Ensure your tables have a clear height of at least 27 inches from the floor to the underside, making them wheelchair-friendly. 🦽 It might mean investing in new furniture, but you don’t have to do it all at once. Gradual changes can help manage costs while you make a big difference. Ready to revamp for accessibility? Sneak peek of our snug area, where our two-way fireplace will go, and the kitchen with skirtings ready for fitting. The island will fit perfectly, and kitchen installation starts this week! I finished the second coat of paint in the utility area, and Bernadette laid the floor—really pleased with how it’s turned out! We’ll cover everything while work continues, with just the dining area left to tackle later. Excited to see it all come together! The Clean Restroom Revolution: What Your Bathroom Says About Your Business If you want to know the ❤️ of a business, look no further than its restroom. A clean, well-maintained bathroom speaks volumes about the pride and care of the people running the show. It’s not just a functional space; it’s a reflection of your values and the respect you have for your customers. I’m on a mission to redefine what public restrooms should look like. Too often, businesses underestimate the impact of a sparkling clean restroom. But trust me, customers notice. A spotless restroom can turn a routine visit into a memorable experience—one that keeps people coming back. My inspiration for this mission comes from two incredible leaders in the food industry, Matt Shlemon and Athena Shlemon , founders of Abbey’s Real Texas BBQ in San Diego. When I worked at Abbey’s years ago, I was blown away by their commitment to cleanliness. Their restroom wasn’t just clean—it was pristine. I’d never seen anything like it in a public setting, let alone a restaurant. One of my favorite tasks back then was sprucing up that restroom. From scrubbing the walls and floors to making every inch shine, it felt like preserving a sacred space. Matt and Athena and their sons Mark and Matthew taught me that excellence isn’t just in the food you serve but in the environment you create. So, to all business owners: if your restroom isn’t up to par, it’s time to get your 💩 in order—literally. Make it a priority to have your staff service the restroom every hour on the hour. Keep it stocked, spotless, and smelling fresh. Let’s raise the bar for public restrooms. Because when you care about the details, your customers care about you. Thank you, Matt and Athena, for showing us how it’s done. #cleanbathroom #toilets
