Dear All, Hope you all are enjoying your Sunday perfectly! 😄 Recently, we successfully concluded our summer internships for Management students. With a batch size of 140, it took considerable effort to complete this task timely due to the specific timeframe required for internships. I’ve observed that students in tier 2 and tier 3 universities and colleges often fall into the following categories: Unable to perform in government entrance exams or just missing the cut-off marks. Missing exams due to various circumstances. Starting slightly late in their career journey. Pursuing their dreams while taking a course as a backup option. Enrolling without a clear idea of their career path, often influenced by peers. While there are more categories, these are the main ones in my experience. As part of the training and placement fraternity, we provide them with soft skills training, communication skills, technical knowledge, and many great resources. However, I believe they need something different beyond these trainings. In my opinion, they require long-lasting hand-holding—guidance throughout their curriculum and continued support after course completion. Building situational ability to conquer challenges is crucial, which we often miss. While we provide technically correct approaches, we might miss developing their behavioral skills. To address this, we have started connecting with our students individually during the last two working hours of our day, understanding their mental challenges. The changes in their personalities and mindset have been evident and remarkable. Changing their mindset and approach is key. If we succeed in this, everything else will become easier for training and placement officers. Our job might be thankless, but our efforts are commendable and fabulous. Adding the flavor of emotional intelligence to these skills will greatly impact the students who spend many years in our universities and colleges. I hope my experience and intentions resonate well with my fellow Training and Placement Officers. Thank you! Have a peaceful and joyful Sunday.

The same people who celebrate landing a “dream job” often find themselves (and their employers) frustrated within a few months of joining. What seemed like a grand achievement quickly turns into a nightmare when the reality of the job doesn’t match their expectations or preparation. Again, most college hotshots become just another face in the crowd after graduation, as countless others have aced the same subjects, co-curriculars, and internships. The life lived within the walls of an educational campus is sheltered and often, a naive one. Because the things that make you stand out in the real world are very different from the ones that impress your professors. So while you chase immediate wins like scoring a 20/20 on the test tomorrow, don't forget to create a long-term vision and invest in yourself. Take small detours - try something new, develop skills that aren’t part of the curriculum, and focus on where you want to be in five or ten years, not just at the end of the semester. You don't need motivation. You don't need 'productivity.' What you really need is a calling that keeps you motivated and productive without external forces. In the end, the game is not about beating your peers in the campus race - it’s about creating a path that’s meaningful and sustainable for your own self.

Last week, I had the privilege of sharing the Office of Experiential Learning's work at the University of Maryland - Robert H. Smith School of Business during Pearson Higher Education's "From Classroom to Career" event. Did you know that nearly 50% of students get most of their career advice from their parents? Experiential learning can help! According to the Student Voice survey, 55% of students who participated in experiential learning, including internships, realized they wanted a career in that field. Are you interested in leading students towards a career you love? Contact us, and we can help you develop an experiential learning project to engage our undergraduate, master's, and MBA students! Let's help our students find their true calling. Source: https://lnkd.in/eV8nMYff #ExperientialLearning

The Secret to Success: Professors, Mentors, and Hands-On Experience The journey to a fulfilling career starts long before you land your first job. The Gallup Purdue study reveals that engaging professors, supportive mentors, and practical experiences like internships play a crucial role in determining your future job satisfaction and success. Think about it: a professor who brings passion and enthusiasm to the classroom can ignite your own love for learning. A mentor who believes in you can help you navigate the complexities of career planning and personal growth. And hands-on projects provide the real-world experience that employers value so highly. These elements not only enhance your college experience but also set you up for a rewarding career. When choosing a college, look beyond the academics. Seek out institutions that offer strong mentorship programs and ample opportunities for internships and practical projects. These are the experiences that can transform your education into a stepping stone for success. #LampertEducationalResources #AffordCollege #MentorshipMatters #InternshipExperience

Thanks to Owens Corning's CEO Brian Chambers and his team for their continued investment in our communities and for inviting me to participate in our future leader's career journey as a keynote speaker on Friday. Their collaboration with the Toledo Public Schools Foundation through the Dream Bigger series creates opportunities for students to start their career journey early. During the program, Owens Corning employees help to prepare high school students for college and the next phase of their lives. The Dream Bigger series provides tools for life and career skills, such as resume building and interview preparation, and offers high school internships to students through this program. Individuals' journey starts when they decide on a career(s) and take the first step in navigating the process. It begins before most people even realize it and continues throughout life. A career journey is a dynamic process with many paths, and if adequately navigated, it assists you in identifying your purpose that aligns with your passion. Studies show that programs such as Dream Bigger assist in setting students' minds and efforts on career goals at an early age. This concept helps them achieve their goals sooner and pivot to other essential things in life, such as secondary careers, that they may discover later.

I recently booked a flight to attend my oldest daughter’s graduation at UC Santa Barbara and talked with her about her next steps, a question that every college senior gets very tired of hearing by springtime. I was reminded of a common hurdle that faces many college students: Getting internships is valuable, but many students will finish college in the next couple of months without having any significant professional experience to speak of. This creates more pressure on graduating seniors who are already under stress, having college loans to juggle and competing for a limited number of entry level positions. This is not to say that many college students don’t do a great job finding meaningful work experience. And unlike in my day, many of these opportunities actually pay - in some cases quite well. But far too many college students lack the easy professional contacts that benefit upper middle class families; I’ve lost track of the number of adults who tell me they helped ‘steer’ their college seniors into an internship. Moreover, many students are so concerned about the cost of college that they can’t focus on internships and instead try to find themselves the most hours or shifts possible, so they can cover the rising costs of tuition. What I would like to suggest here is that those of us in position to help create internship opportunities do so and maybe take it a step further. See if there is a way you can bring a smart and motivated recently graduated college senior into your workplace. At KGL Communications our firm recently hired a new graduate from American University, and she’s already showing great promise. This spring, give someone fresh out of college a chance, the way someone gave you a chance many years ago.

Myths About Summer Placements to give a reality check for the students who will be joining B schools this year 𝐒𝐭𝐢𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐝 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐜𝐤: Not everyone lands a hefty 1.5 Lakh per month stipend. YOUR GPA DON'T MEAN #@~! We're living in a period where we have more graduates than ever. If you have a bunch of candidates who have first class degrees its going to come down to experience to who gets the job. You should think of your university grade as the initial screening part of the recruitment process. If you meet the benchmark employers now want to hear your story and what experience you have. This is why what you do outside of the classroom counts just as much as your degree. Try and get as much experience as you can while your at university. 👇 Internships, placement years, committee roles, extracurricular activities, challenges and awards. A first class degree is no longer your golden ticket to landing a job. #work #uni #tips #motivation

BYU Pre-Business Students For those of you that did not get accepted into the program that you applied for: It’s okay! Rejection is redirection (credit Jonathan Javier💡) I applied to three BYU Marriott school programs when I was at the Y. I was waitlisted for two, but ultimately denied by all three programs. Then… I moved across the country to study Sport Management at North Carolina State University. Being in North Carolina led directly to the opportunity to work for TeamWork Online! The plan we have for ourselves often does not work out the way we thought it would. More important than your major, internships determine your job placement, post-graduation. Adapt to the changes and know that if you keep working, it’s all going to work out eventually. What internships are you looking for? P.S. Did you end up working in the same field as your degree?
