Why I liked and disliked on WebSummit 2024? This year was the first one for me at this really great event and I have bittersweet feelings about it. 🪄 Let’s check in numbers to see and understand deeper the scale of this huge powerful creature which connects people around the globe >70 000 attendees in total >3000 startups >1000 top speakers 12 stages, meeting rooms ~5 food courts, Holly Molly! and looots of energy and synergy, of course 💡What I liked: • they do know how to push everything timely even with 70 000 people onboard 🤘🏻 • there were security check, pre registration and everything went smoothly • I like startups environment, that was inspiring • I like location-Lisbon 🫶🏻 since I was only 2/4 days on summit, it was amazing to open Lisbon streets with its beauty ❌What I disliked: • strange opening talks. I didn’t get why first talk was about interpreting CO2 into fuel for aircraft. Is this topic and realm so wide? It’s important and interesting but still a bit weird to jump there right away after official opening • too many people for me. It’s crowded as hell everywhere and it takes 30-40min to reach next pavilion, so many talks that I was interested in were just missed 😣 • NO MANAGEMENT topics. I don’t have any explanation here, I honestly don’t know how that can be, but it is • 1 flat topic about GameDev and really shallow discussion about it • Format of speakers speech: it was a dialog with really little insights. I expect TEDtalks format but it didn’t so powerful. Not even close🚫 SUMMARY: This event rather for presenting your startup and opening new doors for it by attracting investors, than for ones who is seeking valuable insights from C-level. So my verdict - I don’t plan to visit it next year unless all event structure and topics are changed And how do you feel about it? Feel free to add your points into the lists above. My personal short recap of COCON24 (Copetri Convention) 2024 while talked to our on-site team Katie Clark, Beija Nigl and our panelist Christian Kolbe 👋 Last week, the COCON24 Copetri Convention in Offenbach brought together thought leaders and professionals from various industries to explore the theme “Constant Change: Let’s Turn it into Chances.” The convention, held on May 14-15, 2024, was a hub of innovation and learning, featuring over 220 speakers (one was our MD Christian Kolbe), 70 workshops, and numerous networking opportunities. ⚡️ Key Highlights and Speakers Sara Nuru opened the event with an inspiring keynote on social entrepreneurship and sustainable business practices. The first event, organized with Regina Overchyk, was kept intimate to foster deep connections among attendees. The second event, organised with BlackInTech Berlin and supported by Vera Kämpfer and the #ImpactHub, had fewer attendees than expected despite careful planning. As an organizer, it's common to anticipate a large crowd and feel disappointment when the turnout doesn't meet expectations. 😥 However, these moments reveal the true essence of the event. It's not about the numbers, but the quality of interactions and shared experiences! What struck me were the heartfelt messages received after the event. Attendees expressed joy and gratitude for the experience, reminding me that organizers' (or founders) perceptions and expectations often differ significantly from those of attendees (or customers). These experiences underscored a fundamental truth: 👉 𝐐𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐎𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐐𝐮𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐲: Numbers may seem indicative of success, but the depth of connection and individual impact truly matter. 👉 𝐋𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐬 𝐊𝐞𝐲 : Feedback serves as a compass for future endeavors, highlighting strengths and opportunities for growth. 👉 𝐄𝐦𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐃𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲: Each event and attendee brings a unique perspective and set of expectations.
