Debate Over Proportionality in Israel-Gaza Conflict IntensifiesThe ongoing conflict between Israel and Gaza has heightened concerns over civilian casualties, bringing the principle of proportionality in warfare under intense scrutiny. Proportionality, a key tenet of international humanitarian law, requires that the military advantage of an attack must outweigh the harm to civilians and infrastructure. With rising reports of significant civilian deaths in Gaza, the international community is increasingly questioning whether Israel’s military actions are proportionate to the threats faced and objectives pursued. This debate underscores the complex ethical and legal challenges in modern warfare, where the distinction between military targets and civilian areas often blurs, resulting in severe consequences. #InternationalHumanitarianLaw #ProportionalityInWarfare #HumanRights #ConflictResolution #EthicsInWar #LegalDebate #CivilianSafety #GlobalSecurity #WarAnalysis #PeaceAndJustice #dailydawns

Today marks the day of one year of war in Gaza. The long-term impact of this extreme violence on children, youth, and future generations is impossible to predict with certainty, and we are deeply concerned about the future. 🚨 The devastating and expanding violence on children, in blatant violation of International Law, in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, Lebanon and the region, must stop now. As part of the Terre des Hommes International Federation we call together for: 1️⃣ Immediate ceasefire and de-escalation in the whole region 2️⃣ Unconditional release of hostages and individuals arbitrarily detained 3️⃣ Safe humanitarian access 4️⃣ Protection of civilians, including children by the implementation of international law Read the complete statement at https://lnkd.in/ecBAnyuk #CeaseFireNow

Where is the West Media? Where is the Human Rights Organisations? See what these Terrorists are doing openly! Israel's Minister of National Security Itamar Ben-Gvir announced plans to continue arming settlers in the occupied West Bank and near Gaza and Lebanon. In a post on X, the minister stated that 120,000 weapons had already been distributed to Israeli settlers since the start of Israel's war on Gaza last October, with many more conditional approvals granted. "We intend to continue arming Israel. That's what we did, and that's what we'll continue to do!," the leader of the far-right Jewish Power Party wrote on October 7, pledging to "fight for complete victory" in Gaza, Lebanon and Iran until all "abductees are returned home." Despite UN calls for a ceasefire, Israel has intensified its Gaza offensive since October 7, 2023, killing nearly 42,000 Palestinians mostly women and children - and injuring over 97,300 others. The conflict has expanded to Lebanon, with Israeli air strikes killing over 2,000 Lebanese since September 23. Tel Aviv launched a ground invasion into southern Lebanon on October 1. On 4 November, the international conference “Deportation of Children during the Armed Conflicts” took place in Strasbourg with Ukrainian authorities, international experts and NGOs. The conference was organised to present a new training course on “Deportation of Сhildren during the Armed Conflicts” and to attract international attention to the deportation of Ukrainian children by the Russian aggressors. Experts emphasized that the deportation or forced displacement of children could be classified as a war crime, genocide, or a crime against humanity. Each individual case may meet the criteria for one or two of these classifications, or even contain elements of all three. #BringKidsBack, #Justice, #warcrime

Kiev violating legal, humanitarian rules of warfare — Belarusian security chief According to Volfovich, these violations are committed with the tacit connivance of Ukraine’s Western partners MINSK, September 8/ Ukraine is violating legal and humanitarian rules of warfare with the West’s tacit agreement, State Secretary of the Belarusian Security Council Alexander Volfovich said. "Ukraine is violating all legal humanitarian rules of warfare while conducting combat operations and in the entire course of the special military operation. We see it in how they treat civilians: killings, tortures. They don’t care whether they are men, women, or children. This is practices in respect of prisoners of war, real Nazi methods," he said in an interview with the ONT television channel. According to Volfovich, these violations are committed with the tacit connivance of Ukraine’s Western partners. "What kind of democracy and justice can we talk about if the West is turning a blind eye on this situation, considering it only in Ukraine’s favor," he added. #business #finance #financialservices

https://lnkd.in/d7AE7XB3 Violations of the immunities of international peacekeeping forces: International peacekeeping forces are an integral part of the international system and enjoy certain immunities to protect their personnel and their mission. However, many armed conflicts have witnessed violations of these immunities. The role of the I.C.T.Y in this regard: · Identifying crimes: The tribunal has identified crimes committed against peacekeeping forces, such as murder, torture, unlawful detention, and deliberate attacks on peacekeeping bases. · Affirming individual responsibility: The tribunal has affirmed the principle of individual criminal responsibility, regardless of whether the perpetrator is an individual, group, or state. · Developing international humanitarian law: The tribunal's judgments have contributed to the development of international humanitarian law, particularly with regard to the protection of civilians, the immunities of peacekeeping forces, and crimes committed in the context of non-international armed conflicts. Ratko Mladić, a former Bosnian Serb general, was convicted by the ICTY in 2017 for genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes committed during the Bosnian War. Among the crimes for which he was held accountable were the Srebrenica massacre, the siege of Sarajevo, and the taking of UN peacekeepers as hostages. Ayman Salama #UNILFIL #Israel #Lebanon

For the last year, researchers at Law for Palestine | القانون من أجل فلسطين have been documenting incitement against Palestinians by Israeli government officials, military personnel, and public figures. Visualizing Palestine collaborated with Law for Palestine on a new portal to house this crucial data, which Law for Palestine regularly updates as a resource for legal action, advocacy, and ensuring justice for the Palestinian people. Users can view over 400 instances of genocidal rhetoric, filter by theme and sector, search by person or keyword, and view and download the database. It provides well-organized evidence of the intent that fuels Israel’s military and political strategies, including civilian harm, forced displacement, collective punishment, dehumanization, destruction of infrastructure, starvation, and torture. Learn more and explore the portal: https://lnkd.in/ePVbczR4 Special thanks to Nate Wright for his collaboration on this project. #EndImpunity #JusticeForPalestine #StopTheGenocide
