Meet my partner in crime Paul Scott When i started in 2017 I was the container division Transport manager and Paul the TM for the General fleet. We grew business 50% in that time and over the years we've seen so much change from people to culture, technology, IT, covid etc. We are now heads of the subsidiary: AV Dawson Transport, and we manage the TRIP container terminal for container handling/storage as well as the trailer maintenance workshops on top of the transport function. But, our transport business isn't immune to the pressures that the industry faces every day, same as every other logistics based company that have felt the pinch of the inflationary crisis or many, many customers that also feel the pinch and can't offer annual reviews / increases. But through it all we've probably had one cross word in almost 8 years and those sorts of partnerships are hard to come by. It's now... sleeves up time ...and ready to drive the business into the next 8 years through inevitble change, net zero challenges and supporting our customers to the full. #avdawson #Transport #partners

According to ATRI's recently released study on the Costs and Consequences of Detention, "A majority of truckload drivers - 57.8 percent - were late or had to cancel a pick-up or delivery due to detention at the previous customers' facility at least once in 2023." This week, I made an easy decision to take a loss on three loads, prioritizing my customer's best interest. Due to a shortage of port chassis in Jacksonville during the holiday, I repowered the loads on a pricier carrier with their own chassis instead of rescheduling or passing on the cost to the customer. My commitment to customers goes beyond profit. I believe in honoring my word, even if it means bearing the cost personally. Transparency is key – I kept my customer informed throughout the process of working to recover his loads. The gratitude expressed upon completing the deliveries reaffirmed the value of customer dedication, and I was assured more freight is on it's way. In the realm of brokering, prioritizing the needs of carriers and customers sets apart a good broker from a great one. Breaker act of kindness: give a carrier with a new MC a shot. I've dispatched for new MCs before and it can be extremely frustrating and time-consuming just to find a broker that is willing to work with a new MC. Most brokers have strict guidelines to work with them and a lot of it revolves around MC age. These guidelines aren't without merit, but they do create significant barriers for new carriers in the industry. I talked to a carrier yesterday with a new MC and he told me he has called over 100 brokers just to find one that would work with him. While there are risks associated with new MCs, I believe in giving them an opportunity. Some of my best carriers have newer MCs and it's led to some great relationships. #Freight #Logistics #Trucking #SupplyChain
