Today Climate Action 100+ has released the latest round of company assessments against the Net Zero Company Benchmark. Whilst results show #decarbonisation is underway for many of the world’s biggest #emitters, most are still not meeting all expectations of the Benchmark in terms of delivering a comprehensive strategy. This indicates there is a need for stronger #climate #transition #action plans. 🌍💼 News hot off the press from Climate Action 100+ This investor-led initiative is dedicated to holding the world’s largest corporate greenhouse gas emitters accountable for meaningful climate action and includes 12 of Australia's largest. The goal being to mitigate financial risks while enhancing the long-term value of assets. By zeroing in on 170 key companies essential for driving the transition to global net-zero emissions. Each year, the Climate Action 100+ Net Zero Company Benchmark evaluates these companies' decarbonisation strategies and their alignment with a 1.5°C emissions pathway. This provides investors with crucial insights into their climate-related financial risks and opportunities. In the decarbonization process of the global economy, there is always the controversial debate on the effects of moving away from fossil fuels industries, that the employment situation of workers in those industries will be in danger. On the other side, many international assessments show that the employment rate of renewables is more than that of fossil fuels, which is a favourable argument for (us) climate transition advocates. Employment is not just the numbers and statistics. There is an urgent need for education of related skills, so that "no one is left behind". That's where the concept of "Just Transition" appears.
