Toward 2030 Strategy⏩ Resources Victoria (RV) recently released its Toward 2030 strategy, providing a clear direction for the future of the resource sector in Victoria. As pointed out by RV CEO Matt Vincent "The CSIRO conservatively predicts there are $200 billion of untapped critical minerals beneath Victoria’s surface. It’s our job to enable industry to unlock the full potential of these resources." This new stratgic positioning is welcomed by industry and will hopefully provide a platform for increased investment and confidence in the exploration sector in #Victoria, as the transition to net zero progresses. AMEC's Victorian Manager Stuart Glazebrook said "AMEC looks forward to being part of ensuring this important strategy brings considerable and sustainable benefits to Victoria and all our stakeholders." 🌱 Elevating Indigenous Voices in Mineral Exploration 🌱 As we anticipate changes to the BC Mineral Tenure Act, it's crucial to amplify Indigenous perspectives in every step of project design, exploration, and implementation. AME - Association for Mineral Exploration "What We Heard" Report, now available, captures invaluable insights from discussions with Indigenous communities and industry stakeholders. This report underscores the importance of genuine collaboration and integrating Indigenous knowledge and priorities into our practices. By embracing these perspectives, we can foster innovation and build stronger, more respectful partnerships that benefit all. Kirby Muldoe, Hup Wil Lax A, shared at the Kitimat Session, "I encourage the mining industry to consult early and to consult often with Indigenous Peoples, before you even set foot on Indigenous Territories, while you are still in the planning stage. I am sure I speak for many Indigenous Peoples when I say we are not against resource extraction, we are for responsible and sustainable extraction methods. In this time of ever-changing climate, global warming, extreme and unpredictable weather events, droughts, heat domes, floods, wildfires, etc. we must do everything we can to reduce our emissions and careless use of resources such as water. Investment in the mining industry will not cease to exist implementing the UNDRIP and FPIC, it will ensure certainty for investors." Let's shape a future where Indigenous voices lead the way in sustainable exploration and responsible resource management. Together, we can ensure our role in the energy transition is guided by respect, inclusivity, and shared prosperity. Securing critical minerals for energy transition requires collective action. Without mineral exploration, mining for critical minerals doesn't happen. In fact nine out of the ten metals mines currently in operation in BC were discovered by prospectors, and one by a junior mining company, not major mining companies. Given the government’s Critical Mineral Strategy, it is crucial that the government actively supports the initial stages of the mining process, ensuring fairness for independent prospectors and exploration companies. AME - Association for Mineral Exploration’s recently released “What We Heard” report summarizes recent engagement AME undertook with members and mining stakeholders to discuss impacts of the Mineral Tenure Act modernization process on the mineral exploration and mining industries. Special shout out to Jack Middleton, Sedgwick Strategies Director of Public Policy who worked on this report and rightfully remarked that "This kind of grassroots, member driven, approach to policy development is important for membership organizations and will hopefully encourage the government to consider working people, who are impacted by their policy choices."

Recently a friend of mine in the mining sector connected with me regarding the work that the AME - Association for Mineral Exploration has been up to. Did you know that nine out of the ten metals mines currently in operation in BC were discovered by prospectors, and one by a junior mining company, not major mining companies? This situation emphasizes the need for a more collaborative approach to policymaking in the mining and mineral exploration sector. Victoria catch-up to the rest of Australia The Victorian Government has finally released their Critical Minerals Roadmap, something AMEC and industry has been calling on for some time. It was first announced in the 2022 State Budget. Their neighbours to the North (NSW) recently released a second version of their 5-year strategy. Meanwhile, Victoria is the second last jurisdication in Australia to have a strategy in place. AMEC Chief Executive Warren Pearce said, "While this is well overdue, we welcome Victoria stepping into the critical minerals space. With more to be done, this has the potential to attract federal funding and provide companies with direction for these emerging markets." The roadmap will consider critical mineral processing and battery production including downstream processing opportunities, energy storage product design, production and recycling for local and export markets. The government has estimated Victoria’s critical minerals endowment worth in the order of $200 billion and could support up to 7,000 jobs. Released today as part of a broader 'Economic Growth Statement', the Association will continue to work with the Victorian Government and Resources Victoria, to ensure members and key stakeholders are aware of the priorities as the strategy is rolls out. Had the privelage of moderating the Arctic Energy and Resource Symposium panel on, “Prospects for the growth of Critical Minerals and Northern Partnerships and Next Steps for Carbon Free Energy for Critical Mineral Projects”. The panelists included Claudine Lee (VP, Corporate Social Responsibility for NorZinc) and April Hayward, Ph.D., MBA (Finance) (Chief Sustainability Officer for Li-FT Power). Key takeaways included: - The Northwest Territories have some exciting critical mineral projects. - We have the necessary infrastructure in a lot of cases to get to market. - We can extract in an ethical fashion with a low carbon footprint. - Meaningful Indigenous partnerships are key and top of mind for both projects. - If Canada is serious about a critical mineral strategy than we must work with junior exploration companies to reduce the market volatility so that projects can be expedited and not constrained by access to capital. Both April and Claudine are absolute professionals at what they do. I would encourage you to connect with them if you are interested in best practices on sustainable mining projects. #mining #criticalminerals #sustainability #community #indigenousbusiness #partnerships #supplychain
