The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has issued a significant Letter of Acceptance (LOA) to VantisUAS, North Dakota’s statewide unmanned aircraft system (UAS) network. This recognition establishes Vantis as a vital safety tool for beyond-visual-line-of-sight (BVLOS) drone operations, marking a major advancement for the commercial drone industry in the U.S. Vantis, supported by its technology partner Thales, provides critical services like collision avoidance, streamlining the waiver process for commercial BVLOS flights. Erin Roesler, Deputy Executive Director of Northern Pains UAS Test Site, highlighted that Vantis' scalable, shared-use infrastructure offers an effective solution for repeatable UAS operations. Douglas McDonald, General Manager of ISight Drone Services, emphasized that the LOA will enhance their operational capabilities. The Federal Aviation Administration has authorised Zipline and Wing to operate commercial drone flights without visual observers in the same Dallas-area airspace, in a first for US aviation. The authorisations allow the companies to deliver packages while keeping their drones separated using unmanned aircraft system traffic management (UTM) technology. In this system, the operators manage the airspace with FAA safety oversight. Keller Rinaudo Cliffton, CEO and co-founder of Zipline said: “This approval of Zipline’s UTM system lifts up the entire industry.
