Luxembourg DoD partners with SES Satellites and HITEC to augment SATCOM ground infrastructure The Luxembourg Directorate of Defence (DoD) procured two ground stations following a competitive call for tender to enable the Luxembourg Army to improve its resilience by accessing secure satellite communications services, the DoD, SES and HITEC Luxembourg S.A. said.  The ground stations, which will be installed at the Luxembourg Army’s Military Centre in Diekirch, will be used for Luxembourg’s GovSat-1 satellite services in X- and Military Ka-band frequencies, as well as for the Wideband Global Satcom (WGS) system, the backbone of the satellite communications capability of the US DoD. The addition of the two new ground stations reinforce resiliency and augment the existing Luxembourg Army satcom infrastructure already built by SES and HITEC Luxembourg 10 years ago, bringing the total number of dedicated antennas to four. 🚀🛡 🌎 As modern warfare evolves, the strategic use and development of the #Space domain have become paramount in the process of enabling NATO, as #MultiDomain Alliance. This ensures not only advanced defence capabilities, but also a safer global future. Recently, NATO Allied Command Transformation (ACT) welcomed General Devin Pepper as the Deputy Chief of Staff for Strategic Plans and Policy. He is the first United States Space Force General Officer to be assigned to NATO. In its mission to enable NATO as a Multi-Domain Alliance, NATO Allied Command Transformation (ACT) is raising awareness about the importance of the Space domain. It is widely incorporating space considerations, possibilities, and threats into all aspects of Allied strategic warfare development. Additionally, it seeks to enhance engagement and cooperation with space-focused industries and academia. Great to see Breaking Defense and Brig. Gen. Mastalir, Commander, U.S. Space Forces Indo-Pacific, highlight the pivotal work SDA is doing to enable Link-16 capability from space! Expanding tactical data link operations to space is necessary to ensure the Combatant Commands have the resources necessary to support operations and the warfighter. “We’ve already demonstrated the ability to transmit Link-16 tactical data lines from space and we’re doing those demonstrations with [the Pacific] Fleet in the Indo-Pacific AOR [Area of Responsibility],” Brig. Gen. Anthony Mastalir said in answer to a question from Breaking Defense. “It’s going to be a game changer.” Link 16 is a tactical datalink communication system used by the United States, NATO, and coalition forces to transmit and exchange real-time situational awareness data among all network participants.
