Embracing Industry 4.0: Enhancing Mechanical Engineering Education with Proser's Vocational Theory and TQM Amid the ongoing Industry 4.0 revolution, characterized by advancements in automation, robotics, and artificial intelligence, mechanical engineering education must continuously adapt to stay relevant. Two key approaches that can drive success are Proser's Vocational Theory and Total Quality Management (TQM). Proser's Vocational Theory emphasizes the importance of education that is directly aligned with industry needs, ensuring graduates acquire practical, job-ready skills. Meanwhile, TQM in education highlights the need for quality in every aspect—from curriculum design and teaching methods to the evaluation of learning outcomes. However, implementing these approaches comes with challenges. Outdated curricula, limited facilities, and a lack of industry involvement are some of the obstacles that need to be addressed. Solutions such as regular curriculum updates, industry collaboration, and the integration of digital technologies in education can help overcome these barriers. TQM training in mechanical engineering education also plays a crucial role.
