🤓 Longhurst Wisdom - ‘This is a football’ "Techniques that are deeply understood. And expertly executed." After a previously disappointing NFL Championship season, the Green Bay Packers put in a world-class performance to win the NFL Championship in 1961, under coach Vince Lombardi. What changed? They went back to the basics. Fundamentals first. Ensuring their foundations were set correctly. By focusing on positive daily habits – each and every day. Repeating actions they knew worked and ignoring all other noise. And, by not getting distracted with lots of new shiny ideas. Compound these actions together and over time you increase your chances of success. At Longhurst we build financial plans that win football matches, or as we say here at Silverstone, increase your chances of winning the race. Who is your Vince Lombardi? Who is your financial coach 👉 https://lnkd.in/ddGZ4Qvk #financialplanning #BackToBasics #BuildingFoundations

This is leadership. This was after Minshew threw an interception and the game was a lot closer. Maxx could have ripped him a new one because he made a mistake, but instead he seized the opportunity to encourage him. Lifted him up when he was down. Minshew went on to lead the Raiders down the field for a TD, then another drive for the game winning TD. This is how every leader SHOULD respond when your team gets down. #leadership #leadfromthefront https://lnkd.in/eRfTp-uE

One of the most misquoted mantras in sports came from legendary NFL coach Vince Lombardi. You know the one: “Winning isn’t everything, it’s the only thing.” Demonstrating that nothing matters but winning. But that’s not what he said. Nor was it when he meant. Lombardi’s original quote was: “Winning isn’t everything; it’s the only thing left to do.” Lombardi was a big fan of the fundamentals. He strongly believed that when you mastered the basics, with things like: ✅ Give an excellent effort ✅ Show up to practice on time ✅ Nail the details ✅ Take care of your body ✅ Attend to your family and faith That once all of those things were mastered… Then all that was left was to win. That once you took care of the fundamentals, the results (“winning”) took care of itself. Focus on the basics. Build a process for success. And the results naturally follow.

"All we have is our next play." During NFL Week 1, Rams vs. Lions, the Rams were down by 7 going into halftime. When asked what his team needed to do to win, Rams Head Coach Sean McVay simply said, "All we have is our next play." (Queue lightbulb moment!) This statement extends beyond football. Our past experiences and history offer valuable lessons, and visualizing the future is crucial. However, we can't change the past, predict the future, or control every variable around us. We can only control our "next play" - our actions, responses, reactions, etc. Focusing on our circle of influence rather than our circle of concern is essential for productivity*. Coach McVay sums it up best: "All we have is our next play." *For more on the circle of influence/circle of concern principle, check out Stephen R. Covey's book 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.
