The government has released Australia’s first Gender Equality Strategy. This roadmap is a significant step towards achieving gender equality in Australia. We thank the work that women, advocates, women’s organisations, and allies have done to get here and to inform the Strategy directly, including the National Women’s Alliances. The inclusion of intersectionality principles and theory in the Strategy is a critical aspect that needs to be translated into action. Ahead of #IWD, we're reflecting on what the #EU is doing to advance gender equality globally...🤔 The #GAPIII is an ambitious policy, but does its impact measure up? Last year, at the midpoint of GAP III, we examined its implementation in three local contexts: Morocco, the Philippines, and Kenya. 🔎 Our research found that common challenges that persisted across all three of the case studies. It's imperative to move beyond hashtags and actively work towards making equity a reality for children and victims, particularly in matters of violence and sexual abuse. The Council of Europe's commitment to gender equality and protecting women's rights is crucial, and it's encouraging to see the critical achievements of cooperation projects with beneficiary countries highlighted in 2023. The emphasis on training professionals and implementing new policy frameworks aligned with international standards is a positive step towards ensuring accountability and safeguarding human rights. It's an essential reminder that the energy of all involved and informed authorities should be directed towards immediately returning children safely home and sanctioning human rights violations on the spot.

Did you know that, in 2021-2022, only 4% of bilateral allocable government aid to developing countries was dedicated to programs with gender equality as the principal objective (OECD - OCDE, 2023)? This reveals a significant gap in funding for gender equality initiatives. However, we remain strong in our belief in the power of collaboration to drive change. Co-Impact's program partners are actively working to #InvestinWomen and create more just and inclusive systems, providing millions of women with the opportunity to exercise power, agency, and leadership at all levels.
