Great insights, and quite telling. Based on the reported figures, SADC raised $ 121M in energy funding, of that capital, Zim only contributed <1% . Owing to increased production, the daily demand is forecasted to increase by over 270% to 1866KW. With this gap in the energy sector, Is it an opportunity for banks or rather the risk is high. Time will tell, but clearly there is a gap.
Despite the "funding winter" of 2023 African energy startups raised $650mn in funding, up from 2022's $150mn. Why wasn't the sector affected? - Farai Mudzingwa https://lnkd.in/d9n3x6Xz

𝟒𝐭𝐡 𝐄𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲 𝐂𝐚𝐦𝐩 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐩|𝐄𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐀𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐩𝐬 From 18 to 23 October, nine energy startups from four East African countries met for the 4th #EnergyCamp. They were selected from a total of almost 100 applications. Startup|Energy supports young African #energy #startups, increases their visibility and promotes job creation and innovation in an energy market largely dominated by non-African companies. An essential part of the work are the Energy Camps, which take place twice a year and last several days. The focus here is not on curriculum-orientated training, but on very specific and individual support in the development of a startup’s business idea. This concept is unique and clearly stands out from other accelerators. Another #watertech investment by ENGIE. A great value and smart approach that tackles water and carbon challenges in a new way and within established and expanding market streams. Linear processes optimization is surpassed, easily, by innovators that see things differently in environmental impact. And transform what the market has offered so far. Once more.
CEO at iKare Innovation and ClimaTech expert - President Israel Committee and Board Member of the French Foreign Trade Advisors - Director of Women in Tech Israel
I am excited to share the news of ENGIE New Ventures latest investment in Israel as a strategic partner in this $10 Million seed round! Since the end of last year, we've worked tirelessly on attaching the startup CarbonBlue to Engie's teams and businesses. CarbonBlue is on a mission to revolutionize Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR). It’s Direct Water Capture technology allows them to integrate seamlessly with facilities that already use water, including #desalination plants, and improve the process carbon footprint. And Engie Group is a leading world desalination player. iKare Innovation who is advising ENV in Israel for the past 8 years, was eyes and ears on the ground for the group who otherwise managed the investment completely remotely. The Covid crisis has introduced new investment practices allowing decision making when necessary, without visiting the startup. iKare in Hebrew means “essential”. It also says that "we care". CarbonBlue // Engie collaboration stands exactly at the heart of iKare Innovation’s mission: helping large and small innovative champions to bring solutions to the climate challenges, carry on their vision with the right resources and partners. The recent PLANETech - Climate Change Technologies event has proven that the Israeli #climatech ecosystem is alive and well, igniting new projects, pushing for more solutions, even in this particularly challenging times. CarbonBlue is one of these vibrant startups that are preparing tomorrow’s planet, striving to create a better world. #CarbonCapture, #CarbonRemoval, #CarbonSinking have become a hot topic, with other remarkable startups like Rewind or Gigablue. It's not just the groundbreaking technology that sets CarbonBlue apart, but also the team behind it under the leadership of Dan Deviri and Iddo Tsur. The recent funding round was led by Ibex Investors and Freshfund, with additional participation from strategic investors ZIM Integrated Shipping Services, Jibe Ventures, MoreVC, & Secret Chord Ventures 🥂 Kudos to Engie, CarbonBlue and iKare teams ENGIE Research & Innovation, Olivier Sala, Johann Boukhors, Laurent Rambaud, Davide Romeo Nanni, Shiyun LIU, Noga Fridman Bishop, Adam E., Tal Katz, Dan Peled, Shay Raveh, Josh Steinberg, Tehila Brenner And to co-investors, Gidi Kimchi, Oded Shachar, ZIM Venture Capital ZIM Integrated Shipping Services Ruby Chen, Jonathan Schwartz, Nicole Priel 🇮🇱 , Lian Swirsky, Ibex Investors Zaki Djemal, Hidai Goldsmith, Oded Barel-Sabag, Danny Hadar, Fresh Fund, Assaf Jacobi, Elliott Sussman, Jack Levy, MoreVC, Omri Krigel, Aaron Israel Link to CarbonBlue’s post: https://lnkd.in/gWHzAphC
