This might just look like a group of normal people volunteering… but this kind of thing often starts a chain reaction… 🤯 ⬇️A well intentioned company steps forward to help support young people in their community. ⬇️Their staff enthusiastically jump onboard as volunteers, hoping to help transform a young person’s life. ⬇️Staff get training and support that gives them new skills. (And a University Certificate in Mentoring) ⬇️ Then the real magic happens 🪄 They start working with a young person. ⬇️ They change their perceptions and break down barriers. We see the employees realise they can be part of helping bring #diversetalent into their organisation. These young people have great skills and they can help unlock them. ⬇️ The young people get exposed to new jobs and opportunities. As they realise their mentor is not that different from themselves they think “if they can have a career like this then maybe so can I”. ⬇️ Suddenly an opportunity has been created and young person has found it! ⬇️ Boom! 💥 Now we have a young person with a job and a career, and a company with a great new committed and dedicated employee, plugging the #skillsgap. 🚀 Oh… and along the way they have demonstrated their values, impressed their clients, met social value contract requirements and maybe even been able to evidence their commitment to the community in order to beat the completion and win a new bid! Of course it doesn’t always happen exactly like this and there are some variations but you get the gist! #Mentoring and sponsoring a project with Goal17 Mentoring is about more than just creating #socialvalue. It is about creating meaningful, long lasting change for everyone involved. We are so grateful for all the brilliant companies like VolkerHighways Ltd and their people who support our work and can’t wait for them to reap the rewards. In March, four volunteers from our BCP Council street lighting contract attended Goal17 Mentoring training session in Bournemouth ✨ Goal17 work with local authorities across the UK to develop a network of volunteer mentors who help young care leavers (young adults leaving the care system) transition into adulthood and independent living. Our mentors attended the first training session which was delivered by the Goal17 team along with a Corporate Parent from the local authority, who gave us an introduction into some of these care leavers and the guidance they will need from us. Our volunteers are looking forward to giving support to these care leavers as they navigate the challenges of transitioning into independence. We hope our support can have a lasting impact on their wellbeing and future success. Fran Boorman, Samantha Briggs, Michael Clark, Holly Chapman, scott cuthbert and Cheryl Latreille

With kinship care now making up over half of all Australian care placements, the need for specialised support and training for kinship carers has never been more urgent. Our new self-paced online training is designed to strengthen carers’ understanding of trauma-informed care, offering practical strategies to respond to trauma-based behaviours. Built on the belief that everyday people with extraordinary hearts can profoundly impact the lives of children who have experienced trauma, the course features relatable videos from both carers and experts, interactive activities, and real-world strategies. Hear from Noel Macnamara as he introduces the course and its modules. Carers share their experiences: "I couldn’t understand why the kids behaved the way they did. Now I have a clearer understanding of how their minds work, the reasons behind the behaviour, and how to support them." "Watching videos of other carers and their experiences was so beneficial. It made me realise I’m not alone, and my thoughts and feelings are common. It also gave me hope that things can improve." Sign up now and enjoy a 50% discount for the first 50 registrants!
