VolkerWessels UK has been ranked 9th in the National Centre for Diversity’s ‘Top 100 Most Inclusive Workplaces Index 2024’ and has been awarded the ‘Engineering Company of the Year’ for the fifth consecutive year. Alongside this, we are proud to have retained their top 10 status in the National Centre for Diversity ‘Top 100 Most Inclusive Employers Index’ for 2024, finishing in 9th place, and were also awarded Engineering Company of the Year for the fifth consecutive year. The Index celebrates employers across various sectors, including construction, further education, charities, and public service that have shown outstanding commitment to Fairness, Respect, Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Engagement (FREDIE). The rankings are based on employee feedback from organisations that work towards the NCFD’s Investors in Diversity standard.  Emma Ward, Head of Sustainability and Inclusion, reflects on the award - “During 2024 we have built on our RESPECT programme which focusses on respecting our colleagues, even if they are different to you. This included a year-long Faith campaign which raised awareness of the most common faiths held by employees and we enjoyed sharing the different cultures, customs, traditions and celebrations online and during in person events.  We also supported our female employees by hosting our first Women in Construction Networking event alongside continuing our female reverse mentoring programme, launching the second cohort of the EMPOWER female career development programme, and refreshing our PPE offering for women.  Our 140 strong FIR Champions have been exceptional this year, and the introduction of Lead Champions in each of our businesses has meant more activities and awareness events have been held than ever before.” Solat Chaudhry, Chief Executive at the National Centre for Diversity said:     “I send my warmest congratulations to VolkerWessels UK on successfully reaching number 9 in the Top 100 Most Inclusive UK Employers Index 2024. The inspiring organisations that make the Top 100, demonstrate excellent levels of employee retention and recruitment and clearly demonstrate how they value and respect the people that work for them.  What better than to be recognised by peers and those travelling in the same direction towards the common goal of Fairness in the workplace. The start of a new month means another Sustainability Showcase! 💚🌍 This November, we were proud to continue our sustainability journey with exciting initiatives across our communities and workplaces! From road safety initiatives at local schools through to celebrating our first female HGV driver on our Luton HTMC and volunteering/donating at local foodbanks. Last week marked another important event in our calendar – Road Safety Week, hosted by Brake, the road safety charity. ✨ VolkerHighways teamed up with local primary schools in Bath, Hertfordshire, Luton and London to educate children on how to stay safe on our roads.  We also revealed our new road safety mascot - Amber the Traffic Light!🚦 🚗We engaged with over 200 pupils from St Martin’s Garden School, Bath, through a whole school assembly where the children learnt the Green Cross Code from Kerby. We also hosted a interactive session where our impressive machinery was put on display in partnership with John Wainwright & Co Ltd and Hooke Highways Ltd. 🚦 At St Mary’s Church of England Junior School in Ware, Hertfordshire, over 240 pupils gathered for a school-wide road safety assembly to meet Amber the Traffic Light. 🦺 It's never too early to educate children on road safety! We were pleased to host an interactive road safety activity session for 45 two to four year old children, across two sessions, at Little Stars Pre-School in Luton. 🚙 We supported VolkerFitzpatrick Ltd at St Luke’s C of E Primary School in Canning Town, London, close to the A13 River Lea Crossing refurbishment project, where Amber helped to deliver a whole school road safety assembly for 120 pupils.
