We recently celebrated a significant milestone in Western Australia – our very first Christmas as a foster care provider. It was a truly heartwarming occasion where foster carers, children, and families came together to share joy, laughter, and the spirit of community. We're so grateful for the incredible foster carers and supporters who came together to enjoy the day with us, which was filled with fun, festive activities and face painting. Children (and adults) even enjoyed a special visit from Santa! The event was a beautiful reminder of the power of connection and community. This National Foster Care Month, we're exploring strategic actions that can help our communities care for children and families before, during, and beyond foster care. Today, we're diving into what's working in family preservation---keeping families together before foster care is even necessary. But even as we discuss what it takes to prevent foster care, we want to ground ourselves in the reality that this work is both/and, not either/or. 👨👩👧💙 Foster Tip Tuesday: Build a support system for your foster care journey. Your foster care journey can be overwhelming if you do not have a supportive network of friends and family. It's ok to reach out for guidance and reassurance. Seek out resources that will help you and your family. Also, search for local or online support groups for foster parents to connect with others who understand this journey. #FosterTipTuesday #WelcomingHome #FosterChildrenNeedYou #MakingaDifference #FosterCare

FACT: 30% of your new families could potentially come through referrals from your current resource/foster families and your agency employees. What are you doing to remind, encourage, and facilitate a process for your families to refer their relatives and friends to your agency? Our founder, Mike Logan's 5 recommended actions for improving referrals: 1. Incentivize them. 2. Make it known that you want your clients to refer their families and friends. 3. Create a campaign to communicate your desire for referrals and update it regularly. 4. Create and distribute materials for your families to take to their relatives and friends describing foster care. 5. Host an event and encourage your families to bring family and friends to hear about foster care. #FosterCareRecruitment #FosterFamilyRecruitment #FosterCare

Meet Diego and Miguel, two brothers with big dreams and an unbreakable bond. Living with their elderly grandmother, they faced daily challenges as they balanced school with caregiving responsibilities. Despite their love for learning, they often found it hard to simply be kids, and they lived with the fear of being separated from one another. Diego would say, "School is our ticket to a better future," but for a long time, their aspirations felt just out of reach. Did you know that many siblings in foster care face similar struggles? 50% are separated because there aren’t enough foster homes that can keep them together. You can help change that! By becoming a foster parent or supporting sibling-focused programs, you can ensure that brothers like Diego and Miguel stay together, facing life’s challenges hand in hand. Join us in making a difference for siblings in foster care. Learn more about how you can help by clicking here! http://ow.ly/BnmX50LlxLn #Thornwell #SiblingsInCare #FosterTogether

May is Foster Care Awareness Month, an opportunity to advocate for the needs of children in care and empower them to reach their full potential. It's about ensuring they have access to essential services, educational opportunities, and the support they need to thrive. By investing in their well-being and development, we invest in the future of our communities. There are many ways to get involved and make a difference during Foster Care Awareness Month and beyond: •Support Foster Families: Offer assistance, encouragement, and resources to foster families in your community. •Advocate for Policy Changes: Advocate for policies that improve the foster care system and support children and families in need. •Volunteer: Volunteer your time with organizations that support children and youth in foster care, such as mentoring programs or advocacy groups. Let's honor the dedication of foster families and professionals who work tirelessly to make a positive difference in their lives. Together, we can build a brighter future for every child, ensuring they grow up in safe, loving, and supportive environments. #FosterCareAwarenessMonth #CelebrateFosterFamilies #EmpowerTheFuture
