For those of us who work with, care for, and support individuals who have experienced developmental or complex trauma, incorporating body-centred approaches is essential for fostering holistic healing. We recently had the privilege of speaking with Dr Arielle Schwartz, a clinical psychologist, internationally acclaimed teacher, and author of seven influential books. She shared how her approach to trauma has evolved and why mind-body methods are so transformative in treating developmental trauma. We can't wait for Arielle to join us as a speaker at our 2025 International Childhood Trauma Conference next August! Don't miss your opportunity to attend the Conference and hear her powerful insights into supporting trauma-impacted individuals through a resilience-centered lens. Register by January 16 to secure your ticket at the super early bird rate: https://lnkd.in/gRGb_94N

We recently celebrated a significant milestone in Western Australia – our very first Christmas as a foster care provider. It was a truly heartwarming occasion where foster carers, children, and families came together to share joy, laughter, and the spirit of community. We're so grateful for the incredible foster carers and supporters who came together to enjoy the day with us, which was filled with fun, festive activities and face painting. Children (and adults) even enjoyed a special visit from Santa! The event was a beautiful reminder of the power of connection and community. If you're looking to begin your foster care journey, or you know someone who might be interested, visit our website to find out more: https://lnkd.in/gxCM-Hgg

The Christmas period is a time for connection and celebration, but it's also an excellent opportunity to teach children about bodily autonomy, consent, and their right to feel safe. At Australian Childhood Foundation, we believe every child deserves to decide how they greet and interact physically with others – a handshake, high-five, wave, or smile is always enough. Every choice is valid, and no one should feel pressured to give hugs or kisses if they're uncomfortable. Empower your little ones by reminding them that their body belongs to them and that saying "no" is always okay. Learning to honour their personal boundaries is an essential skill for children's safety and wellbeing that can be critical in protecting them from harm. Where your child cannot say no or you notice they seem uncomfortable, nervous or apprehensive in social settings, gently support them by asking if they would prefer to give a high five. Swipe through to learn more about how you can support your children’s rights to bodily autonomy and consent.
